Provides legal support to the Vice Presidents and other attorneys in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC). As part of a Regional Operations or an OGC Service Team, reviews, revises and drafts contracts. Also provides infrastructure and operational support to Regional Operations or an OGC Service Team, conducts research, drafts memorandums, and participates in special projects as assigned.

Manages multiple projects within the required timelines. Additionally, assists the attorneys in the OGC in developing policies, procedures and systems to ensure compliance with designated laws, regulations, and policies.

Has the authority to review a wide variety of confidential legal documents and to make recommendations on the modification of documents and tracking systems. Also has the authority to provide information in response to individuals seeking information.

Maintains a close working relationship with the OGC attorneys and support staff. Frequent contacts within the organization include board members, facility administrators, executive staff, department directors, and a variety of other individuals within the Sutter Health organization.

Much of this contact is associated with the daily exchange of documents, correspondence and information. Outside the organization, contacts include attorneys, Paralegals and others representing legal firms and external consulting services. The incumbent will exercise diplomatic communications and excellent guest relations, promoting positive and effective working relationship with all contacts and provide a calming influence in the face of unusual/ atypical situations.


A High School education is required.

An Associate Degree or equivalent, to include completion of college courses in English, business and/or healthcare or healthcare administration is required.

A Bachelor Degree is Desired.

Certification / Registration:

Degree from, a postsecondary institution that requires the successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester, or equivalent, units in law-related courses and that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education is required.


Passing the Certified Legal Assistant Exam/ Certified Paralegal Exam administered by the National Association of Legal Assistants ("NALA") is required.


Significant law firm experience considered n lieu of paralegal requirements.

Skills and Knowledge:

Demonstrated knowledge of basic legal concepts; legal terminology, principles and procedures; corporate organizations; contract review, and drafting and use of legal resources required.

Requires a strong working knowledge of computer applications including Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook.

Knowledge of or experience in the healthcare environment is highly desired.


Three year's prior work experience as a paralegal or in the legal profession; or three year's prior work experience in the healthcare field, with a paralegal certificate.

Prior experience using a Microsoft Word is required (prefer a typing speed of 50 cwpm).

Special Skills:

Ability to conduct manual and computer assisted legal research and conduct contract review and analysis are required.

The successful candidate MUST have the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and communicate clearly and professionally with key personnel.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, including the ability to diplomatically investigate sensitive facts and detailed procedures and communicate clearly and professionally to all levels of employees and corporate executives.

The candidate must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and the ability to balance numerous priorities at a given time with minimal supervision.

Must be able to reason logically, analyze situations accurately and recommend courses of action.
