The Public Policy Litigation & Law Department of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) conducts impact litigation in state and federal courts across the country, and provides legal advice to PPFA and Planned Parenthood affiliates about pending legislation, regulatory matters, and activities of those opposed to Planned Parenthood that interfere with our ability to provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare, at the national, state, and local levels.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) seeks a dynamic and effective Paralegal. This is a two-year rotating position. Typical past paralegals have been recent college graduates interested in gaining work experience before applying to law or graduate school or other public policy positions.


  • Provide support for attorneys conducting reproductive rights litigation and policy work including: legal and factual research using Westlaw, academic resources, and the Internet; cite- checking and copy-editing briefs; assisting in production and service of filings; writing and editing non-legal documents describing developments in the area of reproductive rights law; and responding to requests for information.

  • Perform various administrative tasks including: faxing, copying, filing, and assisting in travel and meeting arrangements.


  • Bachelor's degree; superior research, writing and editing skills (knowledge of Westlaw preferred but not required; we will train as needed).


  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Ability to learn complex tasks and concepts quickly.

  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to accurately and succinctly impart knowledge and skills to others; attention to detail; initiative; resourcefulness.

You'll Bring These Qualifications * Paralegal Certificate * 2 years of experience in the required specialty, such as litigation, document analysis, or accounting. (Equivalent or more advanced education may be substituted for a Paralegal Certificate, such as a Certificate of Legal Assistance or any level of accredited program or degree in Paralegal Studies, Paralegal Science, or similar program provided that the curriculum emphasizes legal research and the drafting of legal documents.) Such substituted education will be reviewed by the COR for a determination of acceptability. * For litigation specialty experience in trial support, cite checking legal motions and memorandum and automated litigation support is required. * Must have and use excellent oral and written communications skills. * Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS/NEXIS, CLEAR, West-law, Concordance or Recommind; experience documenting Table of Authorities, and Table of Contents. * Knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources. * Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important. * Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office 2010 or newer programs, and Adobe Professional, or newer program, to include redacting and redlining expertise. * In addition, must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
