Summary:

The job of PARAEDUCATOR-RESOURCE SUPPORT is to provide support in classrooms where Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) is provided in the general education classroom and/or the Resource Support Program (RSP). Accommodations and modifications are provided to students in both settings based on individual need and as outlined in the IEP. Instruction is provided by special education teachers with support from paraprofessionals and in some cases in collaboration with the general education teacher (co-teach). SDI is provided through adaptation of the content, delivery, or methodology in qualifying areas (i.e. Academics, Learning Behaviors, Social-Emotional). Core curriculum, supplemental curriculum, and evidence-based strategies are utilized to address individual student need(s). Progress on goals is monitored through routine data collection, which is used to make educational decisions. Students participate in all federal, state, and district assessments with needed, practiced, and allowable accommodations and modifications as determined by the IEP team. RSP services are available at all schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works under both direct and indirect supervision using standardized routines;

  • Leads, guides, and/or coordinates others;

  • Participates in meetings and trainings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving the employee's skills and knowledge;

  • Supervises students in both the community and in the school setting for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment;

  • Provides clerical and general classroom assistance for staff (e.g. collecting and inputting data, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing and organizing classroom materials) for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for classroom activities related to learning goals and objectives;

  • Operates within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions;

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The environmental factors described here are representative of those that may be present in the work place while the employee performs the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant verbal communication, hearing, vision, kneeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, carrying. Frequent standing, walking, pushing/pulling, handling paperwork, reaching above the shoulder, lifting up to 50 pounds independently or over 50 pounds as part of a two-person lift, exposure to blood/bodily fluids, and moderate to loud noise levels. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent;

  • Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits at 100 Course Level and above); OR completion of an Associate's (or higher) degree; OR have passed the State of Washington Para Pro Assessment;

  • Job-related experience is desired.

Clearances:

  • Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.

Certificates:

  • First Aid/CPR Certification required;

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license, clean driving record, and automobile insurance).
