THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION IS NOW REQUIRING ALL PARAEDUCATORS TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND/OR HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS OR GED TO MEET TITLE 1, PART A FEDERAL LAW REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE PROVIDE OUR OFFICE WITH A COPY PRIOR TO BEING THE SELECTED CANDIDATE.

Purpose Statement

The job of Paraeducator- English Language Learner (ELL) is done for the purpose/s of providing support and assisting students, teachers, and other certificated staff for the purpose of implementing instructional goals; developing student's learning, daily living, physical, social communication and/or behavior skills; and evaluating student's progress on learning objectives.

Essential Functions:
Administers State WIDA assessment for the purpose of following state guidelines;
Assists students, individually or in groups, staff, families, and the community with lesson assignments (e.g. daily living, physical, social, communication, behavior skills, etc.) for the purpose of implementing learning plans to meet instructional goals, and to evaluate student's progress;
Maintains confidentiality at all times following HIPPA and FERPA for the purpose of guidance and/in accordance will district, state, and federal guidelines;
Monitors students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment;
Participates in a variety of meetings and trainings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving the employee's skills and knowledge;
Prepare and deliver instructions for the purpose of improving English and academic skills for multilingual students;
Provides clerical and program support assistance (e.g. collecting and inputting data, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing, and organizing instructional materials, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for the program related to learning goals and objectives for students;
Support families in securing resources for the purpose of meeting individual needs of eligible students.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: translating written documents; operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation in both English and Second Language; age appropriate activities.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.

Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups including those with limited English proficiency and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization's services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Education (Preferred): Paraeducator Certificate Program

Education (Minimum): High school diploma or equivalent with an emphasis in High School diploma or equivalent, and hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college of university, or received a qualifying score on the Washington State's Para Pro Assessment.
