Job Description

Job Title: Paraprofessional I: Behavior Coach

Department: Elementary and Secondary Schools

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Status: Nonexempt; At-Will Position

Prepared By: Human Resources Department

Position Status: Part Time Position

Salary: Range 6 ($10.65-$10.85) based on verified work experience;

Additional monies may be awarded for college credits earned past a High School Diploma

(* This is a grant funded position and will be renewed pending funding each school year.)

SUMMARY

Works under supervision with principals, counselor, reading and math specialists, and other district staff to implement an integrated model of Response to Intervention for behavior. Works with teachers and students to support the three tiers of intervention and support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes communication between school staff, parents, students, district administration, community members and intergovernmental agencies.

  • Assists in creating, implementing, and delivering a continuum of professional development opportunities related to student behavior.

  • Conducts a review of and interprets a variety of data sources to determine overall needs of the school as well as individual student needs relating to

positive behavior support.

  • Works with students in groups or one-on-one to provide support in social skills development, organizational skills, or other behavioral needs indicated.

  • Supports teachers in creating environments and systems for students to have success in the classroom.

  • Collects, organizes and analyzes information about students through records, tests and interviews.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Completion of two years or more at an accredited college or university, or completion of 60 college credits, or an Associate's Degree or higher, or a passing score on a state approved Para Pro Test.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • REASONING ABILITY - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds. The employee frequently is required to move about the classroom or campus. The employee is occasionally required to sit.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
