Painter

Position Summary: Paints/Repairs all types interior and exterior surfaces, woodwork, furniture, fixtures Installs and repairs floor tile. Removes and hangs wall coverings. Receives supervision as necessary to carry out duties and responsibilities. Works independently with minimal supervision. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: 1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors 2. Installs, maintains, inspects, tests, and repairs systems according to the requirements of the City of White Plains, State of New York, County of Westchester, NYS and County Health Departments, NFPA, The Joint Commission, and all other authorities having jurisdiction. 3. Paints and performs general maintenance. 4. Mixes colors, oils and other paint ingredients to obtain proper color and consistency of finishes. 5. Removes and hangs wallpaper. 6. Rigs scaffolding as necessary and spreads protecting cloths. 7. Prepares surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, brushing and removes old paint when necessary. 8. Uses brushes, rollers or spray guns. 9. Finishes surfaces to obtain required finish and installs and prepares surfaces for floor tile, wall tile, sheetrock, etc. 10. Performs plastering and masonry. 11. Fills holes and interstices with putty or other filler. 12. Coordinate and manage service calls with vendors. 13. Attends meetings as required. 14. Assists in snow removal as needed. 15. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education Experience Requirements High School Graduate or equivalent Minimum of 7 years paint experience Experience in various wall coverings, floor coverings and masonry work. Valid, clean drivers license Core Competencies Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Must maintain a calm disposition and work well under stress. Able to work well both alone and with others. Needs little supervision and is a self-starter. Demonstrates ability to establish two-way communication by clearly defining expectations, communicating andutilizing a variety of methods, actively listens to ideas and responds in an appropriate manner Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements Work Environment Must be physically capable of performing necessary job duties and be able to visually and audibly determine any discrepancies in equipment. Must have physical dexterity, coordination and stamina to perform the inspections, which involvesascend/descend ladders, using and operating the tools and machinery to perform job duties. Must be able to transport heavy objects up to 50 lbs Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods Must be able to constantly position self in order to perform job duties over an extended of time. Must be able to perform snow/ice removal and work in all outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to perform job duties when exposed to high level of noise. Able to work from sketches and blueprints. Able to respond to written and verbal instructions. Able to concentrate for extended periods of time. Able to work well with department staff and other hospital staff. Able to maintain a calm disposition and work well under stress Able to communicate effectively with all hospital departments and personnel. Have visual perception needed to comprehend color-coded wiring systems. Able to communicate via telephone, fax machine, computer, internet, etc May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee maybe exposed to are listed in the hospitals SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through thehospitals Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at thehospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
