The City of Charleston is looking for a Painter Technician III to join it's Parks Department! In this role, you will lead the painting crew that applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, fixtures of buildings and other City owned facilities and operations.
Performs repairs & preventative maintenance on various types of facilities and equipment, specializing in painting.
Leads the painting crew by providing instructions, techniques and planning.
Inspects quality of work from the crew.
Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting.
Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, doorframes, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
Paints surfaces with brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers.
Repairs & finishes drywall ceilings & walls.
Installs drop ceiling tiles.
Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler.
Smooths surfaces and removes old paint from surfaces to prepare surfaces for painting.
Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
Removes or paints over graffiti on City facilities and historic material.
Remove and re-glaze windows.
Operates specialized equipment and tools related to the trade discipline.
Monitors supplies and equipment for the painting crew.
May lead the work of maintenance crews at the worksite, ensuring that the work is performed safely and efficiently.
Receives & enters work orders, & completes them according to division procedures.
Maintains records of all work performed & reports any unfinished assigned work to DBO.
Works extended hours, as necessary, during shutdowns of equipment and/or buildings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and 4 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid state issued driver's license.
Ability to use smart phone, tablet, and/ or computer for work order management.
