Job Description:

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the painter supervisor, performs painting work including but not limited to drywall taping and finishing, floor covering, and specialty coatings, and ceiling tile installation.

Essential Functions:

• Applies coats of paint, varnish and stain to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces.

• Smooths and prepares surfaces for painting, varnishing and stain.

• Paints using brushes, rollers, or spray gun.

• Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground.

• Masks areas to insure paint does not get on surfaces not scheduled for painting.

• Protects floor surfaces and furniture with drop cloths.

• Install ceiling tiles and carpet tiles.

• Installs VCT type flooring.

• Tapes and floats surfaces and applies texture.

• Prepares, patches and finishes all types surfaces

• Performs related duties as assigned.

• Insures quality and neatness of all assigned University painting jobs.

• Reports to the painting supervisor who has overall responsibility for insuring assigned tasks are done properly.

• Coordinates work with other trades; maintains a proper relationship with fellow painters, other workers, department personnel, and with personnel outside of the Facilities Management.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Requires knowledge of texture guns, paint mixers, trowel, spray guns, brushes, rollers, miscellaneous hand tools, drills, sanders and other related equipment.

• Requires ability to carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.

• Requires ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.

• Requires the ability to lift approximately 75 pounds and, with assistance, lift in excess of 100 pounds.

• Requires the ability to work in high places on ladders, scaffolding and rooftops.

• Requires the ability to work in all types of weather.

Education Experience:

• Two (2) years experience in the painting trade, required.

• Must have valid Texas driver's license and good driving record.

• High School Degree or GED required
