JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties in the preparation, application, selection of surface coverings for all buildings, equipment and facilities.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

  • High school graduate/Apprenticeship Program or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

  • General construction

  • Surface preparations

PREREQUISITE SKILLS

  • Application techniques for all walls, floors and ceilings

LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current, valid California class C Driver's License with no violations within the past (3) years.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)

  • Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, or enamels to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of the hospital, using paintbrushes, rollers, scrapers

  • Prepare surfaces for painting using sandpaper, wire brushes, or steel wool. Removes old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scrapers, wire brushes. Fills holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler

  • Selects premixed paints or prepares paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required proportions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances

  • Paints surfaces using brushes, spray gun, or paint-roller

  • Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects

  • Creates special effects by applying paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers

  • Rigs stage or erects scaffolding

  • Spreads cloth or canvas over floors and furniture to protect from spattered paint

  • Cut stencils and stencil surfaces as cloth, bulletin boards, walls, doors, windows and equipment

  • Replace door and window glass

  • Paper walls

  • Occasional use of hospital vehicles may be required

  • Other duties as assigned by Chief Engineer/Assistant Chief Engineer

Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy. Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
