This position is responsible for providing technical and strategic direction to Generac plants with paint operation. The Paint Engineer will ensure proper guidelines are in place for all mechanical and process components of the continual and batch paint lines to function at target levels while working with corporate EHSS team to ensure adherence to all applicable local and state regulations. In addition, this individual will work with corporate quality and plant operation teams to establish world-class quality and output throughout the paint processes.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Establish a process to monitor paint line utilization and provide guidance on proper loading and unloading of parts to ensure correct hanging methods, line density calculations and unloading/stacking procedures are in place.

  • Research and evaluate new materials, equipment, technologies, and methods for paint process excellence and assist in the justification and implementation of the new technology.

  • Facilitate improvements to tooling, equipment, and purchased materials and services to improve quality and up time, as well as reduce cost.

  • Collaborate with 3rd party paint vendors to create documentation regarding the paint line including but not limited to, PM schedules, titrations, zinc levels and wastewater treatments.

  • Resolve complex paint process problems by collecting, analyzing, and researching information to modify engineering techniques, and recommend solutions.

  • Support plants with evaluation of all phases of the paint process (washing, sanding, coats application, detailing, etc.) as needed.

  • Review drawings, evaluate processes, components, and materials to resolve design integration issues for current and new products.

  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process, and quality system promote quality, preventative maintenance, and safety practices.

  • Promote the technical integration between all operations and engineering departments to best implement processes improvement, new materials testing and approval, and sharing technical knowledge with plant staff.

  • Prepare complicated plans, conduct support studies, and provide analysis or tests in the development of manufacturing paint operations.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical or Chemical preferred)

  • 5 years' experience in supporting (including commissioning/installing) powder coat application systems/ pretreatment systems and cure & dry ovens.

  • Experience with pretreatment chemical application / maintenance / and wastewater impact.

  • Exposure to E-Coat systems and how to accurately apply the technology (from external sources).

  • Experience leading projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering

  • Experience operating in high mix, low volume and high volume, low mix production environments.

  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally to achieve desired results.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; and to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, crouch, bend and reach above shoulders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist high, up to 10 feet away. This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a manufacturing environment, including seasonal variations in temperatures and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or byproducts. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing, and shields for required tasks, and closed-toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies.
