Responsible for loading and unloading of supplies and equipment, and the movement of materials from dock to bin or from storage to shipping.
Uses remote terminals and keyboards to receive, confirm and transmit inventory data.
Prepares and completes required shipping documentation for various means of ground transportation and air freight.
Packs and labels material following agency, Federal and international packing and shipping requirements for hazardous and nonhazardous materials and items.
Works with a high degree of independence.
Occasional travel - Travel is required to attend training, conferences, workshops, and/or field visits

OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicant's qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of Packer (Fire Tool Restoration) WG-7002-07 without more than normal supervision.

Physical Demands: Incumbent's work requires standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. During periods of high fire activity incumbent may be required to work for periods of time up to 21 days without days off. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, equipment, and printed materials that may weigh 60-70 pounds. Work is generally performed on concrete or hard surface floor.
Work Environment: Incumbent works in both inside and outside areas. Cache warehousing is done in areas that are hot, cold, dry, wet, drafty, and poorly lighted. The work is dirty, dusty, and greasy. He/she is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruise, and the safety hazards inherent of warehousing.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
