Job Description

Job Title: Packaging Mechanic

Department: Packaging

Reports to: Facility Manager

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the installation, commissioning and validation of packaging linesand equipment in the distribution center.

  • Set up and maintain the packaging lines to achieve required efficienciesandquality levels.

  • Compile set up and operating instructions for the equipment.

  • Train Packaging Operators.

  • Set up and implement an effective service and maintenance program,including routine cleaning, lubrication and inspection to ensure maximum performance.

  • Repair equipment as quickly aspossible to minimized downtime.

  • Manage spare parts and maintain suppliercontracts.

  • Collect and monitor data on packaging equipment performance to reducecosts and improve delivery.

  • Repair and upkeep all essential facility items, such as piping, HVAC, electrical systems, lighting, and all item pertaining to safety and security (i.e., cameras, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, etc.) to ensure asafe work environment.

  • Employee must workincompliance with Alere NA QMS and Quality Policy requirements.

  • Required to complywith 29 CFR 1910.1030 Blood Borne Pathogens and applicable SOPs.

Non-EssentialFunctions:

  • Maintain knowledge of production and quality systems/GMP

  • Assist with facility maintenance, such as, but not limited to; office upkeep, IT requirements, lavatory repairs asneeded.

  • Maximize time spent on packaging lines and help out when necessary

  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or equivalency

  • Two to four yearsofexperience with packaging equipment, including, butnotlimited to carton erectors,glue systems, check weighers,coding systems, wrapping and banding setting and changing parts.

  • General PCproficiency

  • PLC a definite plus

  • Knowledge and skillshelpful in the basic electrical,validation, maintenance systems, sensors,quality systems, problem solving and training.

Equipment Used:

Computer, carton erectors, check weighers, wrapping/collation machines,conveyors, PLC

Physical Activities:

Grasping, bending standing, crawling, stretching, twisting, pushing, lifting up to
50 lbs., keyboarding.

Essential Job FunctionsDaily Responsibilities: • Responsible for electrical and mechanical repair and preventative maintenance of facility and plant equipment • Installation, troubleshooting & repair of low & high voltage (single/three phase) industrial electrical & control systems for packaging lines, facilities & plant support equipment such as air compressors, boilers, pumps, water purification system, production plant & warehouse lighting • Responsible for emergency & scheduled maintenance tasks across the plant • Ensure assigned projects are completed timely, correctly, safely and to the highest quality standard • Maintain a clean working environment upon completion of assigned projects • Comply with plant safety, quality, GMPs, current standard practices and all other plant rules, policies/procedures • May be required to work directly with contractors regarding new or existing electrical issues • Perform other duties as assigned • Responsible for change over and set up of production lines • Responsible for set up and maintenance of bottle and case coding equipment • Maintain PM and repair of mechanical driver equipment, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems. In addition, flow meters, density meters, temperature sensors, gas sensors etc. • Maintain wiring to NEC standards and ensure any new wiring is within compliance.
