Job Summary

The Packaging Engineering Technician works in collaboration with cross-functional team members from Product Management, Quality, Sourcing, Engineering/Design and Supply Chain to provide and validate structural designs, material specifications, and costs of proposed packaging. Packaging includes returnable containers, inserts, carts, bins, racks, shelves, gravity racks, conveyor lines and any other item which will hold parts, finished goods and/or supplies required in the material management process. The position will report directly to the SIOP/Materials and Logistics Leader.

Responsibilities:

The Club Car Packaging Engineering Technician position is designed to supplement material handling strategies and standards for new and existing product to include inbound and outbound parts, finished goods, returnable and retail packaging through the full life-cycle of the product. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to implement packaging solutions throughout product/project life-cycle while possessing the following abilities:

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, ambiguous work environment

  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external business partners and suppliers

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously

  • Assist in design and development of expendable and returnable packaging

Core responsibilities include:

  • Review and assess packaging material specifications for form fit and function (ergonomics, best practice and productivity)

  • Lead/support continuous improvement packaging projects

  • Participate in meetings and provide project updates for production, materials, sourcing AME and Aftermarket shipping/kitting, loading

  • Able to work with internal and external parties to design and implement an optimized packaging solution

  • Follow corporate packaging engineering standards to drive best-in-class packaging designs, standards and specifications

  • Perform as the business link between Packaging and Manufacturing by engaging daily with internal customers and supplies to identify opportunities for packaging improvements

  • Drive identified solutions through the change process working with key stake holders to implement new packaging

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Models Ingersoll Rand values (Integrity, Respect, Teamwork, Innovation, Courage) in and outside of the work environment

  • Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology or Materials Science is required. BS/BA in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain, Engineering Technology or Project Management will provide a distinct advantage

  • May satisfy the education standard provided 50% of formal education (associate equivalent) is complete with commitment to complete the bachelor degree requirement. Education progress monitoring method to include participation in the Company tuition reimbursement program. The balance of the education entry requirement may be satisfied via specific work/leadership experience. Time worked as a Club Car team leader, lead quality tech or lean tech may be substituted on a two for one (2 years' experience for 1 year education) requirement basis.

  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, fulfillment, shipping or packaging environment are preferred

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles. Demonstrated ability to apply and related problem solving methods root cause analysis, corrective and preventative action concepts

  • Demonstrated ability to lead positively and effectively

  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority

  • Strong written and verbal communication, reading comprehension and listening skills

  • Strong capability with computer applications including email, Excel, Word, Share Point and PowerPoint preferred with good working knowledge required.

  • Experience in CAD will be a distinct advantage. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills

  • Self-motivated and flexible

  • Requires minimal day-to-day supervision; self-directed once overall guidance provided

  • Previous experience working in a matrixed organization providing subject matter expertise across functional groups while displaying cooperative and positive behavior with co-workers

  • Willing to participate in continuous learning opportunities as part of job and personal development

Requirements & Success Factors Sophomore or above pursuing Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering curriculum. Overall 2.8 GPA or above Demonstrated leadership skills (minimum of one example in the last four years such as: school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, etc. or exceptional leadership of work projects) Learning agility – able to understand and refine project business improvement opportunities, apply logic and problem solving tools to maximize outcomes. Intellectual curiosity – demonstrated history/example of clever observations coupled with a willingness to propose innovative solutions to business opportunities.
