SCOPE

The Packaging Engineer develops packaging design concepts for new and existing products and point of purchase displays. The Packaging Engineer will also run packaging and transportation tests, work with vendors, solve performance problems, and create specification documents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and manage complete package development process including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, performance testing, and final implementation into production

  • Prepares samples for customers and various testing

  • Gather and document information for the commercial group

  • Manage design specification library

  • Create and organize pallet patterns

  • Validate sizing of new cartons, cases, and other secondary packaging

  • Troubleshoot new or existing packaging problems involving designs, materials, or processes

  • Identify and implement possible cost savings with consideration to purchase price, material selection, and manufacturing processes

  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop and improve packaging

  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to develop displays and packaging that will promote and develop our product lines

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to physically perform the functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions

  • Must possess visual acuity to document company records

  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Packaging or Mechanical Engineering required

  • At least 3 years of packaging engineering experience required

  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects

  • Demonstrated problem solving and multitasking skills required

  • Ability to analyze data and make appropriate design decisions based on that analysis

Organization and neatness is an absolute must since this position requires documentation of permanent records for the company and its customers. The Quality Systems Specialist is responsible for coordinating document implementation, review and change, specification maintenance and daily maintenance of customer data bases for internal and external customers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Create, and maintain all Manufacturing Specifications (MSPEC's) * Create, and maintain all finished product labels * Responsible for developing monthly quality training and presenting along with the quality portion of new hire orientation. * Assist in the maintenance of the SQF code guidance spreadsheet. * Assist in internal audit program. * Manage Document Control Program QUALIFICATIONS The requirements for this position should include but not be limited to the following. * Be a critical thinker. * Be a self-starter * Statistical processing and analysis abilities. * Essential problem solving methods * Above average math skills * Intermediate computer experience with a mandatory background in Microsoft Excel, word and power point. * Ability to perform research with little or no guidance. * Ability to perform under pressure and communicate well with all departments. * Must have internet access at home. * Must have the ability to take calls during off hours.
