General Summary:

We are currently seeking students for a six month co-op position within our Research and Development: Global Packaging department at our World Headquarters location in Camden, New Jersey, located just outside of Center City Philadelphia. Campbell's Co-op Program provides students with an opportunity to contribute to activities within Soup, Sauce, Beverage, and North American Food Service. Students may work on brands including Swanson Broth, Campbell's Condensed and Ready-to-Serve Soups, Wolfgang Puck, Pace Salsa, Prego Italian Sauce and V8 Beverages encompassing a variety of packaging formats. Students will be part of a team, and will work alongside other experienced professionals on critical project initiatives. Gain hands-on experience working closely with your chosen department on meaningful projects.

At Campbell's we are seeking full-time undergraduate students pursuing degrees in a variety of fields for our co-op program. Our co-ops possess a strong academic background and are eager to learn. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development of new package components, including specifications.

  • Participate in and lead Packaging trials at manufacturing facilities as needed.

  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional team members and outside suppliers.

  • Present results to the R&D organization upon completion of the six month term.

Job Specifications:

  • Candidates must be full-time undergraduate students, enrolled in Packaging or related program, and will be returning to school after the completion of the co-op term.

  • Candidates must have completed at least one semester of core classes and/or fulfilled School requirements for Co-op eligibility.

  • 3.0 GPA or higher preferred.

  • Candidates must in good academic standing with their college or university.

  • Candidates must demonstrate an ability to learn quickly and to be able to work well independently, in a team environment and on multiple projects.

  • Physical ability to handle weight of approximately twenty-five pounds.

  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship or assistance from the comp

The Senior Packaging Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging for innovation, renovation, cost reduction, and sustainability activities. The role requires coordination, managing, and execution of multiple complex and multi-disciplined projects with minimal supervision. The role requires a strong understanding of multiple packaging materials, configurations, and processing technologies. The Senior Packaging Engineer must also partner with cross-functional business teams, including Marketing, Consumer Insights, and Supply Chain to evaluate new opportunities and deliver new packaging solutions to the market. Essential responsibilities will include but not be limited to: * Identifying, evaluating, and developing packaging components and systems to meet business, manufacturing, customer and consumer needs. * Collaborating with cross - functional partners and commercialization teams to drive projects forward by researching and developing packaging solutions to meet consumer and customer needs. * Leveraging external network to deliver novel solutions that meet the packaging requirements of new process technologies, product needs, and consumer experiences. * Identifying and driving cost savings opportunities, looking at individual component level as well as process improvements and manufacturing efficiency gains. * Executing package testing and evaluation, including production line trials, to validate packaging performance. * Providing support to manufacturing during the implementation of commercialization activities and packaging changes. * Writing technical specifications for packaging components and final package. * Reviewing technical drawings for packaging components and participating in the packaging artwork approval process. Job Complexity * Leading, managing, and executing multiple simultaneous packaging projects with minimal supervision. * Creating and leveraging cross-functional partnerships to identify, evaluate, develop, and deliver packaging solutions. * Supporting the Packaging R&D Leadership Team in the implementation of key Packaging Development initiatives. * Building, maintaining, and leveraging external network of material and equipment vendors and co-manufacturing partners. We're looking for the following abilities and skills: * Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science / Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required. Advanced degree, Masters in Packaging Science / Engineering or related field or MBA, preferred. * 5+ years of experience in packaging development roles of increasing responsibility, ideally in the high-volume food or consumers goods industries. * Familiarity with variety of packaging materials and technologies and manufacturing processes strongly preferred. * Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. * Strong problem-solving skills * Highly organized with great attention to detail and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected requests. * Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time. * Must be able to lift product cases unassisted at plant trials and to prepare pallets for testing. * Must be able to sit or work on feet for extended periods of time.
