This position is responsible for prioritizing, organizing, assembling, packing, moving, staging, and processing material within the packing department with regard to efficiency, quality, and safety.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Packs outgoing materials, products, or supplies.

  • Counts items shipped and checks against packing lists, recording any discrepancies.

  • Assembles and packages various types of materials, finished products (whole or part), and supplies.

  • Places products, parts, or merchandise into packages, boxes, crates, or other containers.

  • Makes crates or custom packaging for large or bulk products from various materials using power and pneumatic hand tools.

  • Uses styro-foam, paper, plastic, or other materials to wrap and pack containers.

  • Loads product using rolling carts, hand truck, and/or forklift.

Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy environment by adhering to organizational standards and policies, and legal regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Act (EPA).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to walk, step, lift (up to 50 pounds), carry, load, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, stand, push (up to 150 pounds), pull, grip, feel, hear, and see (color) while performing all tasks. Good manual dexterity and hand eye coordination are a must as are the ability to stand and walk for extended periods and extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. The ability to judge distance and space relationships and see objects where and as they are.

SPECIFIC SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Ability to read and interpret a shipping order and pick list.

  • Familiarity with general assembly methods.

  • Ability to memorize and recognize parts by number and finish.

  • Ability to do simple mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to interpret detailed job paperwork and instructions clearly.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others as well as work productively and independently.

  • Willingness to cross-train and rotate positions effectively.

  • Willingness to work flexible and overtime hours as need.

  • Willingness to train and educate others.

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to drive a forklift.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High school education or equivalent.

  • Previous packaging and assembly experience required.

  • Forklift certifiable.

  • Operating knowledge of various hand, air, and power tools.

Primary Responsibilities: * Perform a variety of manual or machine assembly tasks associated with building Printed Wiring Board (PWB) or unit Assemblies for various aerospace applications. * Assemble a variety of electronic units using proper assembly techniques (of varying complexity) * Identify correct parts, components, wires and other materials by part markings, color codes, container labels, etc. * Utilize a variety of hand tools (manual and power) * Solder electronic components * Operate assembly machines * Measure, mix and apply a variety of chemicals and adhesives * Perform measurements using measuring instruments * Read and interpret assembly instructions, process instructions and engineering standards * Utilize computer systems (e.g. work instructions, labor charging, and standards) * Process material requisitions in accordance with established procedures * Generate Non-Conforming Material (NCM) reject tags (short & long form) and respond to corrective actions (CA's) * Check and verify per work instructions * Recognize and take steps to resolve assembly/work area issues -Perform material handling tasks * Maintain accurate records of all work performed (e.g. labor charging, verification, assembly data, route card) * Train other employees and perform other duties as assigned * Physical Demands * Transport product with or without product carts; lift up to 35 pounds unassisted; sit and or stand at workbench/machines/flow line for extended periods of time; bend, stoop, reach, turn as required; use hands for extended periods of time to perform assembly (e.g. grasping, holding, picking, placing, twisting, fine manipulation); utilize magnification devices for extended periods of time to perform verification, assembly & soldering; distinguish colors and meet vision requirements. * Work Environment Characteristics * Wear static-control and personal protective equipment. * Work with chemicals and adhesives that may emit fumes, high temperature equipment / materials, equipment with moving parts, manual / light power tools, products of various weights and sizes, high air pressure, enclosed x-ray and laser machines.
