FedEx Ground Package Handlers load and unload sorted packages in a fast-paced environment and ensure that FedEx Ground continues to deliver packages to its customers on time and with care.

FedEx Ground facilities typically have multiple sorts operating daily in each location. During the sort, Package Handlers are responsible for the physical loading, unloading and/or sorting of packages by hand, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying and placing, in a safe and efficient manner. Package Handlers (PHs) may be assigned to or rotate through various areas and positions such as Loader, Unloader, Palletizer, Scan Weigh and Key (SWAK), Quality Assurance (QA), Facer, Switcher, etc.

Individuals who are interested in being considered for a Package Handler position are required to watch a virtual job preview before completing an employment application process. The virtual job preview, will provide a realistic preview of the Package Handler job.

Daily activities include assisting with warehouse operations and performing entry level warehouse and dock-related tasks, loading and unloading trucks, shipping and receiving, moving, handling and tracking packages and other material and assisting with transportation and distribution operations.

Essential Functions of the Package Handler position

  • Utilizes "hand-to-surface" methods for all package handling.

  • Loads and unloads packages onto or from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor system carts and load gratings.

  • Lifts, carries, pushes and pulls packages on a continuous and repetitive basis for approximate shifts of two to four hours.

  • Determines the appropriate conveyor system by scanning packages, reading labels and charts, verifying numbers and memorizing information and sorts packages accordingly.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods.

  • Ability to discern numbers and information in order to sort packages correctly.

  • Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

  • PHs operating switching equipment must have a valid driver's license and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file.

VIEW JOBS 11/2/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-31T00:00 Overview Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps envision a future in which all Minnesota children will be proficient readers by the end of 3rd grade and proficient in algebra by the end of 8th grade. Our tutors help students build these critical foundational skills through 1-1 or small group tutoring support. Tutors are trained in conducting progress monitoring assessments and research-based interventions, and will receive ongoing training and coaching support throughout the school year. Minnesota Reading Corps tutors can choose to work in a preschool setting with 3-5 year olds, or in a 1-1 setting with Kindergarten-3rd graders. Minnesota Math Corps tutors will work with pairs of 4th-8th grade students. While you're focused on creating success stories, you'll also receive benefits including: All of our positions are AmeriCorps service member positions, with the AmeriCorps programs Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps. Responsibilities Tutoring * Provide intentional and meaningful literacy or math tutoring during all parts of the day to improve the literacy or math skills of children from preschool–8th grade. * Assess, with high level of accuracy, child outcomes and progress using tri-annual benchmark assessments and ongoing progress monitoring assessments. * Identify students who qualify for targeted one-on-one and/or small group tutoring services based on assessment data with direction from the Internal Coach and Master Coach; develop weekly tutoring schedule. * Record student and program data completely and accurately in an online database on a weekly basis; maintain confidentiality of all student data. * Participate in on-site coaching sessions (includes observation of tutor) two times per month to review student progress, plan, problem-solve, and set goals; act on constructive feedback from coaching sessions. Communication * Communicate with students in an age and developmentally appropriate way. * Act on constructive feedback provided by coaches and Program Staff. * Build professional relationships and communicate regularly with school/agency staff, Internal Coach, and the Master Coach regarding schedules, literacy strategies, student progress, etc. Attendance * Regular, timely attendance during school hours Monday-Friday, along with before/after school hours as scheduled. * Commitment to the entire term(s) of service, including making regular and adequate progress toward the minimum total service hours. * Attend all required Reading Corps or Math Corps sponsored training sessions, meetings, and coaching sessions; travel as necessary. Secondary Functions * Perform assignments and/or duties as assigned by Internal Coach, Master Coach, or Program Manager, excluding activities that would displace a staff member. * Represent our programs at site-sponsored activities, meetings, (e.g. family night) and other community activities (such as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day). These may include evening and/or weekend hours.
