Job Summary

Works under general supervision, performs difficult and responsible clerical duties and provides customer service to clients and visitors. This position works independently and must exercise independent judgement to include providing direction to staff at the North Burial Ground and assistance to funeral home representatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and performs clerical tasks necessary to the operation of the North Burial Ground office.

  • Greets clients and works with families, other clients and visitors.

  • Assists with the preparation of plot deeds.

  • Keeps detailed records of all transactions to include the recording of plot purchases and burials.

  • Records all purchases and burials on plot maps.

  • Performs basic bookkeeping procedures and maintains simple accounting system.

  • Compiles, copies, sorts, files, and maintains documents and records of office activities and business transactions.

  • Types correspondence, reports, documents, and forms.

  • Opens, sorts, and properly distributes mail.

  • Answers telephones, directs calls, and takes messages.

  • Maintains stock and inventory.

  • Communicates with and assists customers, employees, and others to obtain information, respond to inquiries, and assists in handling complaints.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Must have data processing ability with a minimum of 45 words per minute.

  • Considerable skill and accuracy with basic mathematics, business English, and bookkeeping principles.

  • Successful completion of Computer Training Level III course within six (6) months of appointment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously.

  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to direct burial ground staff and others doing business on the grounds.

  • Ability to perform inventory control.

  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
