As a Perishables Inspector, you are responsible for the daily inspection of inbound and outbound product; product is located in the warehouse coolers. Your ongoing responsibilities include: monitoring product expiration dates or best use date; monitoring product for proper slotting and addressing product problems with the supervisor/manager; and documentation and reporting of inventory and load rejections utilizing Microsoft office software.
Ensure quality of merchandise by inspecting inbound perishable commodities in accordance with company guidelines and USDA standards for grades of produce and cold chain compliance; preparing, reviewing, and analyzing reports; handling freight manually.
Monitor product expiration dates or best use dates.
Maintain quality of perishable merchandise by ensuring sell-by-dates are adhered to; perform daily inspections and physical checks on items; provide detailed write-ups on commodities that don't adhere to company and/or USDA guidelines.
Learning cold-chain compliance for seafood.
Become familiar with the warehouse computer applications in order to properly locate product.
Microsoft Outlook and Excel will be used on a daily basis to generate inspection reports.
Maintain records containing quality reports; complete various inspection forms; edit documents; enter data into spreadsheets.
Use Digital camera to document product quality when sending notifications.
Using basic math to determine product defect percentages.
Communicate with individuals or groups verbally and/or via email (e.g. customers, suppliers, fellow employees)
Follow company policies, procedures, guidelines, and compliance requirements when inspecting products for quality and damage.
Make effective choices using policies, procedures, and/or guides. Recognize what could be an issue; inform those who can resolve it.
Take immediate action within the scope of responsibilities.
Ensure work is performed and completed correctly; make a consistent effort to obtain desired results.

High School Diploma or equivalent
Six months' experience performing produce or meat quality control related responsibilities (e.g. performing inspections, monitoring storage temperatures, cold-chain compliance) in a warehouse or retail environment
Six months' experience performing clerical related responsibilities (e.g. filing, data entry) using computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel); basic to intermediate level proficiency.
Good written and verbal communication skills; Good mathematical skills
A basic knowledge of fresh produce to include identification, grades, packs, sizing, and quality standards preferred
A basic knowledge of produce warehousing, storage, and pallet configurations preferred
Able to adapt to changing work demands
Position will require employee to walk up and down two flights of stairs to access the warehouse and produce office
Position will require extreme caution when touring the coolers due to the cold temperatures, forklift traffic, forklift noise, and pallet positioning by the forklift operators
