What you'll be doing...

You will perform detailed equipment engineering for our Domestic US Intelligent Edge Network (iEN), Unified Transport Core network. You will engineer and manage the creation of Detail Engineering Designs for technologies associated with our Core networks including: Multi-Service Edge (MSE), Core, Transit Label and gateway routers; core network Ethernet switches & servers, and the supporting host of network ancillary and infrastructure equipment.

  • Engineer detailed, often complex, technical instructions for new and existing technologies; specify and order equipment/cables/hardware.

  • Coordinate/project manage project specific installation designs and physical installations.

  • Engineer/manage database (ICON, CoFEE, and Nautilus) updates, equipment configurations, card/port assignments/requirements, power mapping, cable running lists, floor space and rack placement, and detailed Bill of Material (BOM).

  • Interface with Operations and other Implementation organizations to obtain critical pre-engineering information, site specific data as well as redlines and other end of job information.

  • Ensure that all engineering documentation (including ICON, and CoFEE) is accurate and up-to-date for use by Install, Test, Implementation, Operations, Provisioning, Planning, Network Capacity Management, and Audit groups.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience.

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25 % of the time.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree with focus in the area of engineering or another technical discipline.

  • Four or more years of experience in telecom with equipment engineering experience in an outside plant environment.

  • Ability to be highly motivated, work independently, customer focused with organizational and leadership skills to push all projects to completion, using conflict resolution, facilitation, solution-driven analysis, superior communication and project methodology.

  • Knowledge of telecom networks and related equipment.

  • Knowledge of Excel, Word and other Microsoft application skills.

Either 1. Graduate of heating, HVAC, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration apprenticeship program from the U.S. Air Force; Or 2. Must have been an enlisted machinery technician (MK) with the U.S. Coast Guard OR possession of a certificate as a Marine Engineer issued by the U.S. Coast Guard; Or 3. Must have been an enlisted power generation equipment repairer with the U.S. Army; Or 4. Must have been an enlisted gas turbine systems technician, submarine nuclear propulsion plant operator reactor control, utilities man, machinist mate, or engineman with the U.S. Navy; Or 5. Must have a Merchant Mariner's Document (MMD) and have been a qualified member of the engine department (QMED) as an oiler, fireman/water tender, refrigerating engineer or engineman with the U.S. Merchant Marine; Or 6. Completion of a New York State Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program for stationary engineers, plant maintenance (plumber/steamfitter), HVAC Mechanic or plant maintenance (refrigeration/AC) (See Note #1); Or 7. Possession of a High-Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer License or Stationary Engineer License; Or 8. A bachelor's degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Marine Engineering; Or 9. Four years of full-time hands on experience in the maintenance and operation of commercial, industrial, institutional facility, computer applications of digital energy platforms and building analytics and/or performing diagnosis, repair of HVAC systems or boilers or auxiliary equipment; Or 10. Four years of full-time hands on experience in a residential setting performing diagnosis, operation, maintenance repair of HVAC systems or boilers or auxiliary equipment; Or 11. An associate's degree in HVAC AND two years of qualifying experience as described in EITHER qualification #13 or #14 above; Or 12. Completion of an HVAC certificate or diploma from a BOCES program (900 hours) OR completion of an approved certificate in HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, boiler operations and maintenance, or plumbing from an accredited technical school or technology college (See Note #2) AND two years of qualifying experience as described in EITHER qualification #13 or #14 above. Duties Description As a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 on an assigned shift, you would operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test, and calibrate mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner. You would make recommendations on major overhauls and replacement of equipment and identify, recommend and develop energy conservation projects. You may supervise subordinate staff in the operation and maintenance of heating facilities and mechanical equipment. You may also supervise contractors in an emergency or project situation and you may be required to assume responsibility for operations of the overall physical plant. Positions involve shift work within a 24-hour work schedule which includes night and holiday shifts. Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
