This is anentry-level position where the incumbent is responsible for the installation/splicingof coaxial passive devices, minor passive device testing, and troubleshootingof passive devices as related to a Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network. He/she must have the ability to understandand interpret HFC design maps. Also, theindividual will need to properly and safely use tools and equipment required toperform coaxial passive splicing duties, including required safetyequipment. Under close supervision, theincumbent is expected to grasp and excel in the art of coaxial splicing.
Witha basic level of competency, installs and repairs equipment within the HFCdistribution system, including customer premises.
Witha basic level of competency, splices overhead/underground coaxial cablesincluding assembling the equipment per the design print. This Includes the proper cutting andpreparation of the required coaxial cable prior to splicing.
Witha basic level of competency, responds to issues identified by our performancetools. This includes identifying,troubleshooting and resolving any associated issues, as well as referring morecomplex resolution to higher level staff.
Performsbasic troubleshooting activities to repair/resolve coaxial passive equipmentand coaxial cable issues.
Performsbasic tap and end-of-line radio frequency (RF) level checks to identify andverify tap RF levels meet Cox' specifications.
Utilizestest equipment and other diagnostic tools (e.g., notebook computers, digitizedsystem maps) to resolve basic RF level problems.
Utilizescoaxial splicing hand tools in a safe and appropriate manner.
Ensuresall needed/issued tools, parts, material and equipment are available at the jobsite and reconciled daily to ensure accurate material usage
Maybe called upon to perform daily monitoring and documentation for CLI compliancewith FCC requirements, which could include repairing leakage to resolveproblems.
Worksvarious shifts, including nights and weekends, when necessary.
Completesdaily production reports and provides status information throughout the day.
Marks-up maps, tracks work hours and completes "as-built maps" forareas built.
Operates vehicle and/or bucket lift safely, following all safetyand traffic regulations.
High School Diploma, GED orequivalent work experience
1-2 years of experience preferred in CATV or related field
Knowledge of and experience with various coaxial splicingtools and equipment a plus
Ability to read and interpret HFC network design prints at abasic level
Required to lift a minimum of 75 lbs.
Capable of handling and workingoff a 32' extension ladder in various conditions and heights, including theremoval and mounting of the ladder on the vehicle rack
Required to climb utility poles,use ladders, and utilize truck-mounted lift bucket to complete daily assignmentsas needed
Required to wear allrequired safety equipment
Reads and interprets systemprints, including system design maps and digital drawings, at a basic level
