Position Description

This is a part-time Monday through Friday, day-shift position. We are seeking a registered nurse (RN) to join our vascular clinical team. Position will cover both of our facilities, one is located near the Medical Center and the other is in Clear Lake. In this position, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing vascular access procedures under conscious sedation. In this role, you will gather pretreatment patient data, monitor patient and medications during procedures, maintain prescription drug logs, and provide assistance to the vascular access team during pre- and post-procedure activity. Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing patient information to the interventionist and clinical team during procedures to deliver vascular access care to the patient including but not limited to cardiac monitoring, aldrete score, pain status - monitor patient vitals (HR, BP, O2Sat, EKG) during procedures

  • Maintain radiation safety when C-Arm is in use in the procedure room

  • Assist in procedure room preparation; maintain sterile techniques in the procedure room; assist with pre-and post-procedures including assessment of discharge

  • Assist in recovery room patient care following vascular procedures

  • Monitor and record use of all medications during procedures

  • Gather patient clinical information prior to procedures including patient assessments and patient history

  • Keep clear and accurate patient medical records

  • Maintain up-to-date narcotic drug log

  • Serve as surgical technologist during procedures as necessary

  • Assist center manager in maintaining inventory count

  • Communicate with dialysis facilities to monitor post-care as directed by center manager

  • Observe all OSHA and radiation safety monitoring policies

  • Assist in moving patients within the center

  • Assist in scheduling patients as directed by the center manager

  • Participate in access center community education programs

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to: attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed; work in other centers as needed; know, understand, and follow teammate guidelines, employment policies, and department or company procedures; know, understand, and comply with all Lifeline clinical and business policies and procedures

  • Consistent, regular, punctual attendance as scheduled is an essential responsibility of this position

Qualifications

  • ADN or BSN degree from accredited school of nursing required

  • Current Texas state nursing license required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred

  • Basic computer skills.

Patient Access: * Consistently and accurately utilizes medical acceptance criteria to screen and schedule appointments for new patients and/or consults in a way to ensure optimal efficiency in clinic operations. * Supports successful implementation of department-wide new tools, support, and operational models to improve access to care and employee workflow. 2. Clinical Reviews: * Performs clinical review of new patient referrals and internal referrals to determine medical acceptance and communicates with patients, referring professionals and MDACC physicians regarding patients who do not meet medical criteria for acceptance. 3. Oral and Written Communication: * Uses excellent oral communication and listening skills to communicate with patient, referral source, MDACC physician and MDACC clinical staff regarding barriers to access or financial clearance. * Clearly and professionally communicates information during all patient communication. Follows established customer service guidelines and strives to meet all reasonable patient requests. 4. Revenue Integrity: * Collects complete and accurate financial and consent data during intake and registration process, verifies data during new patient registration to ensure compliance with required forms and consents. * Uses technical expertise to obtain insurance information when needed and electronically verifies eligibility when available. * Provides financial information to patients obtained during verification process by financial clearance staff, to include charge estimates, discounts, and patient financial assistance. 5. Documentation: * Completely and accurately documents communications with patients, clinical providers and key stakeholders involved in the new patient onboarding process. Captures information using established guidelines for each area while demonstrating appropriate task prioritization and urgency. EDUCATION: Required: Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). EXPERIENCE: Required: Two years of experience in nursing or one year related nursing experience in utilization review, insurance, case management, or medical clearance. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required. Two years of experience in utilization review with external payors within a hospital or insurance setting. Two years oncology nursing experience would be a plus. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Preferred: Case Management Certification, Certified Healthcare Access Manager, Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), or other certification of specialization would be a plus.
