Our Outpatient Therapists for this position provides care to those served as part of our co-occurring disorders treatment team to individuals with co-morbid substance use and mental health diagnoses. We provide level of care assessment, individual and group psychotherapy to adults and work to incorporate the strengths of their supports in their environments to maintain their recovery efforts in the community. We're looking for confident clinicians accustomed to evaluating, planning, and providing compassionate services, including outpatient, intensive outpatient, dual recovery, and partial hospitalization programs; plus all related documentation and case management work.

1.Using a learned professional's knowledge and education, assesses the changing needs of clients served pursuant to guidelines for outpatient, and/or partial hospitalization programs, community programs, and incorporates these into treatment plan and treatment plan review.

2.Conducts assessments of new clients, using the identified format for documentation and clinical decisions regarding treatment, interventions and referrals, as instructed or deemed appropriate. Implements, improves, and adapts concepts, models, and constructs of treatment for application in service delivery to clients.

4.Creates a treatment plan that includes an effective continuum of therapeutic, supportive and other services for the clients' variety and complexity of needs serviced by the program.

5.Discusses the need for additional services with the clinical treatment team to determine appropriateness of recommendations. Refers clients to other levels of care, such as community based self-help programs for recovery or other community, social or human services as needed.

6.Documents all comprehensive assessments, treatment sessions, contacts, case management, and other case management work done on behalf of clients, including social history, psychiatric health history and mental status exams, according to best practices and guidelines.

7.Maintains confidential, accurate and complete client records, including medical records, in compliance with legal and institutional standards and submit documentation that is professional in content and appearance by established deadlines.

8.Continually grows clinical skills by learning and implementing new treatment approaches on a regular basis and maintains independent responsibility for working efficiently, for learning, and continuing education, and implementation of quality community standards of care.

9.Utilizes and implements a strengths based approach, and an evidenced based practice model, for illness management and recovery, family psycho-education and dual disorder treatment in assessing the client's knowledge of their own mental health condition.

  1. Collaborates with the client's family and service coordinator, to assist clients in developing, obtaining, performing and maintaining culturally appropriate basic living needs.

  2. Maintains daily records of clinical productivity in the program, as instructed, and independently demonstrates competency in the management of administrative responsibilities associated with client care with minimal supervision. (This may include caseload management, group census and other administrative tasks.)

  3. Participates as a treatment team member colleague in regular treatment team meetings to discuss clinical cases, review and update client treatment plans, monitor therapeutic progress and initiate recommendations for referral and continuing care.

  4. Collaborates professionally, and in a culturally appropriate way, with other behavioral health treatment providers, colleagues and the client served in coordinating treatment services and monitoring delivery within Pittsburgh Mercy or with other community service providers.

  5. Participates in the regulatory and licensure preparation activities on an ongoing basis with program and organization leadership. Reviews cases and/or groups periodically, as well as serious clinical client condition changes with supervisor and other clinical personnel as indicated.

Education, Qualifications, Licensure and Experience Required:

Master's Degree in Human/Social Services with one (1) year, two (2) preferred, of clinical experience, preferably diagnosing and treating behavioral and psychiatric conditions including treating those with co-occurring conditions. Criminal/FBI/Child Abuse Clearances up to date every 60 months and Child Protective Services Law training certificate every two years..

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday and some non-traditional business hours to meet programming needs

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a dedicated full time Patient Care Technician to help support the Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders unit for its Oakland location. This position will work rotating shifts (including night shift), including holidays and weekends. The Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders is a 28-bed inpatient program designed to treat children and adults with both intellectual disabilities as well as an acute psychiatric illness. A Patient Care Technician provides routine patient care and supports the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the nurse or physician to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times. Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections and Foley care) AND at least 4 of the following hospital identified tasks: phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. * Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred. * The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers and beds. * May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. * No contact with medications is allowed. In the course of duties may be asked to distribute medications to the nurse at the bedside. * Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
