Job Essentials
Manages the nutrition care process for the specialty area utilizing advanced health assessment, decision-making, and diagnostic reasoning skills.
Performs clinical nutrition assessment (i.e. subjective global assessment).
Oversees own case management.
Communicates nutrition expertise with all appropriate healthcare providers.
Provides advice in specialty area to other related professionals and healthcare organizations eg. document reviews, presentations, panels, etc.
Uses resources effectively and efficiently in practice.
Mentors staff and students.
Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of practice and adopts best practice as needed to improve care in a specialized area.
Instigates and/or develops department continuous quality improvement projects, strategic plans, and initiatives.
Participates in and applies research to improve patient outcomes.
Works with a high degree of autonomy and independent practice.
Note: If employee is hired without being a Certified Dietitian (or Licensed Dietitian if working in Idaho), they must become certified or licensed within two months of hire to remain in the job.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or nutrition related field. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education will be verified.
Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Food handler's permit (as required by facility).
Successful completion of an approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) program.
8,000 hours of work experience in specialty area, and credentialed specialty certification such as CSG, CSO, CSSD, CNSC, CSP, CSR, CDE, CSOWM. (Note that 'Certificates of Training' do not meet this requirement).
Certified Dietitian (State of Utah) or Licensed Dietitian (State of Idaho) obtained within two months of hire (see note above).
Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated skill, knowledge, and competence in specialty area.
Demonstrated computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
Physical Requirements:
Interact with patients and co-workers requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information.
See and read labels, monitors, and documents.
Operate computers and other equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
