David's South Austin Medical Center is an acute care facility with 316 beds, offering a range of complex specialties and sub-specialties, including a nationally accredited oncology program with the area's only adult bone marrow transplant program; a trauma program that includes all of the capabilities and programmatic elements of a Level II trauma center to treat the most severely injured and critical patients; a comprehensive cardiac program; full-service maternity and newborn care with Level I and II nurseries; and two full-service emergency centers in the communities of Bee Cave and Bastrop.
The cardiac rehabilitation nurse is a registered nurse who possesses advanced knowledge and skill in the area of cardiac nursing. Makes decisions of moderate difficulty.
Handles confidential information regarding patient records. Operates and analyzes telemetry cardiac monitors, exercise equipment and patient evaluation tools. May be required to make critical decisions concerning the initiative of emergency medical procedures.
Assists in the delivery of Cardiac Rehab Services:
Monitors telemetry during outpatient exercise sessions.
Assures that exercise area is set up and orderly, both before and after sessions.
Discusses patient progress with attending physician and primary physician as necessary.
Meets regularly with each patient, formally and informally as needed, to assess progress in program and provide appropriate cardiac education.
Communicates problems or concerns of the patient to the referring physicians, by phone and fax, that occur during an exercise session.
Responds to referrals and begins the process for each patient entry as necessary.
Begins the chart process, request of medical records, chart label, and all entry documentation.
Initiates advanced cardiac life support measures according to SAMC protocols in the event of a cardiac emergency.

Required: Graduation from an NLN school of professional nursing
Preferred: Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree
Required: A minimum of 2 years experience as a staff nurse in an acute care setting
Good understanding of EKG interpretation and critical thinking skills to perform assessments on cardiac patients.
License & Certifications
Required: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas.
If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
