Position Details

The Outdoor Adventure Camp Program will run from June 15, 2024 -September 1, 2024.

Hours are 7:30am-5:30pm with some evenings and weekends.

This position works in the Auburn Parks outdoor adventure camp program. The adventure camp program travels with teens to various locations to partake in outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, paddle boarding, river floating, kayaking, overnight camping, and other outdoor activities.

This is a non-benefited position that performs its duties in support of the Parks, Arts, and Recreation Department.

Primary Duties

  • Implements and monitors recreational programs including, but not limited to, outdoor adventure camps, bike programs, rock climbing, hiking and other outdoor activities; assists in planning program themes, activities, games, and projects; order supplies, tracks spending, and inventories equipment.

  • Drive 15 passenger van daily driving is a requirement of this position on trips up to 3 hours each direction. Van training will be provided and is required of all staff.

  • Prepares rooms, vehicles, and areas for programs including moving, setting up, taking down, and cleaning, supplies, and/or equipment.

  • Assists City staff with programs, activities, special events, day-of-event duties, volunteers, and/or facilities, as assigned.

  • Supports the department fleet services including, but not limited to, cleaning vehicles, fueling, checking equipment for appropriate supplies; and reporting service needs, as needed.

  • May be required to work a flexible schedule in support of programs and events, particularly weekends and evenings.

  • May provides oversight over other non-benefitted or volunteer recreation staff to ensure programs are running as planned/scheduled.

  • Oversees program participants; implements planned program activities; and reports behavior issues, as needed.

  • Communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing including, but not limited to, routine correspondence, minutes, and reports; using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and/or grammar.

  • Operates the computer registration system and word processing software in the performance of the office support duties.

  • Performs basic clerical and administrative duties, as needed.

  • May operate a van to transport participants to, and from, Parks Department locations which includes, but is not limited to, assisting passengers in getting on and off the van as needed, maintaining the van in a safe and operating condition, and working with the supervisor to schedule the van.

  • Works effectively under pressure and with frequent interruptions.

  • Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.

  • Completes work and projects in a thorough and timely manner.

  • Understands and follows directions from supervisors, posted work rules, and procedures.

  • Works courteously and effectively with public officials, citizens, supervisors, and other employees both in person and over the telephone; assisting them with a wide variety of information pertaining to City and department.

  • Assists staff with projects as directed.

  • Shows initiative in performing job functions.

  • Performs work related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma, or equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous work experience or education in recreation or a similar field is highly desirable.

REQUIRED LICENSES

Possess and retain a valid state driver's license without impending loss at time of appointment.

Possess or has the ability to obtain a valid CPR and First Aid certificate within three (3) weeks of appointment.

Possession of a King County Public Health Department Food Handler's Permit may be required within one (1) month of employment as a condition of work.
