Outage Director

Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

Accountable for planning, executing, and closing complex integrated outages as defined in Calpine's Outage Management Program. Complex integrated outages contain one or more of the following work scopes:

Steam Turbine Major

Multiple CT Centerline Projects

Controls upgrade

Complex BOP Outages

P91 Piping with any ST Major

Must understand civil, mechanical, and electrical construction practices. Must understand operation and maintenance for combustion turbines, steam turbines, high energy piping, valves, instrumentation and controls, and pressure vessels. Background in Power Plant industry policies/practices/procedures for both operations and maintenance.

Project Management and/or Outage Management experience that includes in-depth schedule and cost management.

Build and lead matrix teams to complete work in scope during a fixed duration power plant outage. Coordinate with Plant Leadership, Engineering, and Commercial Operations on approval of the Outage Schedule for generating units.

Act as liaison for Plant's interest to ensure quality work is executed event free, on time, and on budget. Provide direct leadership for safety and environmental compliance for Outage activities, personnel, and results.

Track development of work plans, schedules, and cost for all outages or other events as required.

Ensures Strategic Long Rang Planning Process (SLRP) is incorporated into outage planning and development process.

Promotes productivity and teamwork in assigned area with open communication, timely decision making, and use of personal leadership skills to set high standards of performance while providing the direction necessary to achieve that performance. Provides direct leadership and supervision to Project Controls resources.

Ensures all Company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner, estimates resource requirements, monitors expenditures, and reports on performance of assigned area.

Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress. Recognizes problems and is proactive to drive resolution.

• Manages multiple consecutive outages at multiple power plants in all regions while ensuring future outage planning is occurring.

• Accomplishes work through others. Plans, coordinates, monitors work activities at multiple power plants, in different regions using matrixed team members from other departments.

• Highly skilled professional with wide-ranging technical expertise with ability to resolve complex issues.

• Competent to work at highest level in multiple knowledge areas or function as advanced contributor.

• Decisions typically related to implementation of department strategy, intradepartmental coordination, and business outcomes.

• Results have significant impact on costs and the achievement of project objectives and/or project-based goals.

• Identifies opportunities which make a significant difference to the performance of multiple department functions and possibly organization-wide impact.

• Makes decisions for large-scale outages which include a closely related set of projects and/or initiatives involving multiple functional areas.

• Establishes objectives for multiple functions including work plans and delegating assignments to subordinate managers and senior professionals.

• Works within broad guidelines; applies advanced technical knowledge of multiple functions to solve complex problems which may have long-term impact on the department.

• Identifies project risks and develops plans to reduce impact.

• Manages multiple functions within a department with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and resources.

• Determines methods and procedures for new assignments.

• Regularly plans and manages large/complex projects.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or high school diploma with equivalent combination of education and experience

• Previous project and/or outage management experience.

• Typically requires minimum of 15+ years experience.

Salary Information

• Salary range rate - $144,954 to $184,816
