POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: District Elementary Behavior Specialist
FACILITY: Affiliated Buildings-Crow Agency, Hardin
REPORTS TO: District Behavior Interventionist / Superintendent
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The person in this position works collaboratively with the elementary school staff in implementing intervention strategies (positive behavior supports) within the school environment that allows the student to successfully integrate behaviorally into the school setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Behavior Management and Intervention:
Implement and monitor district wide behavior management strategies, programs, and interventions to address individual and group behavioral; issues, challenges, and concerns.
Provide direct support, guidance, and supervision to students exhibiting challenging behaviors, helping them develop self-regulation, conflict resolution, and coping skills.
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to develop, implement, and review Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), Individualized Education Plans IEPs), and intervention strategies tailored to meet students’ unique needs, strengths, and areas for growth.
Social-Emotional Learning and Skill Development:
Facilitate social-emotional learning (SEL) activities, lessons, and programs to promote self-awareness, empathy, communication, teamwork, and other essential life skills among students.
Provide targeted social skills training, group counseling, and individualized support to help students build positive relationship, develop resilience, and navigate social dynamics.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, counselors, support staff, and families to identify, address, and resolve behavioral concerns, academic challenges, and social-emotional issues affecting students’ learning and well-being.
Maintain open, proactive, and respectful communication with students, families, and stakeholders, sharing information, updates, strategies, and resources to support students’ success, growth and development.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Collect, analyze, and interpret behavioral data, observations, and feedback to monitor progress, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and inform decision-making, planning, and adjustment to behavior management strategies and support plans.
Prepare and maintain accurate and comprehensive records, reports, documentation, and documentation related to student behavior, interventions, progress, and outcomes in compliance with school policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Professional Development and Training:
Participate in professional development, training, workshops, conferences, and ongoing learning opportunities to enhance knowledge, skills, competencies, and best practices in behavior management, social-emotional learning, counseling, and related areas.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION:
Montana Educator license with elementary endorsement (Special Education preferred)
Experience with Behavior Intervention
