The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) is seeking a physician to fill a full-time tenure track position in the Department of Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP).

Education/Knowledge

Minimum Education Doctorate Required Licenses/Certification

Successful candidates must have a D.O. degree from an accredited college/school of osteopathic medicine and be residency-trained and board-certified or board-eligible by the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, (ONMM or CSP-OMM). Teaching and clinical experience preferred. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure in West Virginia.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary job of this faculty position is to provide education in osteopathic principles and practices and assist in providing OPP integration to all phases of the WVSOM predoctoral and postdoctoral curriculum. Duties include participation in the curricular duties of the OPP faculty in training/teaching all four years of osteopathic medical students.

Academic responsibilities may include preparing and delivering lectures, instruction in OPP labs, development of test questions, and small-group activities. OMM clinical practice occurs at the Robert C. Byrd Clinic adjacent to the school campus and may include precepting OMM rotation students and ONMM resident clinic. Research or scholarly activity opportunities are available.

The percentage of academic responsibility may vary depending upon the candidate, however ideally around 50% Academic and 50% Clinical at the Robert C Byrd Clinic. If desired, this position could provide an opportunity for hospital and/or nursing home practice.

Academic duties include training medical students, interns and residents with the primary responsibility being instruction of first and second year medical students in the classroom, lab and/or in the clinic. Academic responsibilities may include preparing and delivering lectures, assisting in skills labs, and other small group activities. Research is supported and participation in scholarly activities is expected. Research facilities and research start-up funds are available.

WVSOM is currently transitioning to a Systems Based Curriculum entitled "Finding Health" in which all disciplines are integrated, employing a variety of formats and modalities including lecture, out-of-class learning, simulations, lab, small group, and Team Based Learning. Team-teaching is routine and the successful applicant will be expected to work collaboratively in the delivery of our curriculum. Teaching facilities at WVSOM include a cutting-edge lecture facility, team-based learning room, and a state-of-the-art simulation center.

Salary and faculty rank will be commensurate with experience and includes an excellent benefits package including medical malpractice insurance, educational loan reimbursement, and relocation expenses. Our ambulatory clinic the Robert C. Byrd Clinics is certified as a Rural Health Clinic and serves communities in the greater Greenbrier Valley.
