Our Clearwave Communications, a Cable One company, OSPC Fiber Technician performs commercial installations, completes repairs, terminates service, and troubleshoots customer issues for our fiber optic network.

  • Performs installations and uninstallations of customer premise equipment, such as hosted phone service and fiber termination equipment by using an OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer) and other fiber splicing tools.

  • Tests and troubleshoots voice/data equipment at customer premises utilizing tools and verify customer's services are operating at optimal levels and that they are receiving their purchased level of service.

  • Performs inside plant splicing while installing customer fiber equipment, which involves stripping fibers back to the bare glass, cleaning, cleaving, and placing in the fusion splicer.

  • Tests and troubleshoots central office equipment verifying that the light levels being sent out are adequate for the distance that we plan to provide service.

  • Installs central office equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Prior hosted phone service and fiber termination equipment helpful, but not necessary.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to work overtime or irregular schedules.
