We are in search of a candidate who is looking to grow in the Outside Plant - Design Engineering field in a telecommunications industry. The OSP Field Surveyor takes on the role of gathering the necessary field information regarding aerial, buried or underground Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications cable and associated facilities. The information provided will be utilized to facilitate the design of work orders to place new network cables, hand holes, terminal cabinets, or to rearrange/modify the existing network. This position takes on other tasks and functions such as:

  • Responsible for the route design and layout of outside plant telecommunications copper and fiber network facilities.

  • Support the design and engineering process by planning and preparing drawings for underground or aerial construction of new, overlay, removal, rearrangement of existing fiber optic and/or copper cables, conduits, manhole/handholes, building entrance, road crossings and node placement.

  • Completes designs in accordance to customer specifications and guidelines.

  • Must be familiar with engineering in the public right of way and on private property.

  • Responsible to research plots and right of way (ROW) with various government agencies to validate cable routes.

  • Able to read and understand highway/road prints, identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, identify routing path and equipment's required for relocation projects.

  • Responsible for gathering field data of existing plant inventory to update CAD and /or ARCGIS and Custom Planning Tools and Databases.

  • Coordinate with Graphics and Documentation to ensure redlines are processed and included with as-built documentation via CAD and/or ARCGIS.

  • Familiar with permitting and right of way processes.

  • Oral Presentation skills - is comfortable with delivering briefings and reports to colleagues, conduct training sessions, and any other tasks related to speaking in front of an audience

  • Strong organization skills with an ability to prioritize and plan work activities, uses time efficiently, organizes or schedules other people and their tasks, in a fast-paced environment; must be detail-oriented and accurate in work

  • Attendance/Punctuality - is consistently at work and on time for scheduled shift and department or customer scheduled meetings. Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.

  • Decision-making - makes sound, well informed, fact-based decisions and seeks guidance when needed.

  • Growth and Learning - is curious and understands that learning is a lifelong endeavor. You own your learning and development, and you are committed to evolving.

This is what you need to have:

  • 2-year College Degree in Engineering or Communications or HS Diploma or GED equivalent with 6 years of experience or successful completion of apprenticeship program for Field Engineer with 6 years of experience.

  • Knowledge of current approved products and technology used in the engineering remote electronics, FTTT, GPON, Ethernet and MDU's.

  • Strong computer skills required, including experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGis, Autocad and Custom Planning Tools and Databases.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices applied telephone engineering.

  • Knowledge of a variety of construction materials and their characteristics relating to engineering.

  • Ability to apply local and national building and safety regulatory codes.

  • Ability to make computations and calculations involving the applications of engineering principles.

  • Ability to interpret and apply pertinent laws, regulations, policies, procedures and other program guidelines.

  • Ability to prepare, interprets, and utilizes plans, designs and specifications.

  • Ability to analyze and present technical data in clear, concise construction and various types of materials.

  • Ability to work effectively with the public and employees.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

  • Regular, punctual, and consistent attendance

  • Must be able to work any shift and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary to meet the needs and goals of the business

  • Must possess of, and the ability to maintain a valid driver's license.
