The Office of Sexual and Interpersonal Wellness provides support and resources for current Pace University students who have been impacted by any form of sexual misconduct (including sexual violence, dating violence, sexual harassment, exploitation and stalking), and develops on-campus violence prevention initiatives, workshops, and events. The office is directed by Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Education Specialist, Asha Kadir, who serves as a confidential resource for students. Asha leads Peer Educators, a peer education program on the Pleasantville Campus.

Peer Educators offer programming, workshops, and other learning opportunities throughout the year, and act as resources for Pace University students. The Office of Sexual and Interpersonal Wellness PLV is seeking to hire additional peer educators for the 2023-2024 academic year and beyond. This position provides a stipend. RAs and graduate students are NOT eligible to apply.

Peer Educators offer programming, workshops, and other learning opportunities throughout the year and act as resources for Pace University students. The Pleasantville Office of Sexual and Interpersonal Wellness is seeking to hire 3 Peer Educators for the 2023-2024 academic year and beyond.

Peer Educators provide support and resources for current Pace University students who are or have been impacted by sexual assault and develop on-campus violence prevention initiatives, trainings, and events.

Compensation

This position provides a $600/semester stipend.

RAs, Orientation Leaders, and graduate students are NOT eligible to apply. Students with work-study are encouraged to apply.

General Position Description:

  • Act as a resource and referral point for Pace students impacted by issues or experiences related to sexual misconduct.

  • Collaborate on brainstorming, planning, and executing events and workshops for the Pace community. Events range from film screenings and bystander intervention workshops, to self-care events and community discussion groups.

  • Represent and support the Office in outreach activities such as tabling and presenting at University 101 classes, as well as other workshops.

  • Provide administrative support as needed, and other tasks as assigned.

Peer Educators are resources and spokespeople for the Office of Sexual and Interpersonal Wellness, which means that discussing sexual misconduct is a significant part of this position. Peer Educators must be comfortable discussing these issues with frequency and receiving accounts from students who have had related experiences. Due to the high level of responsibility of this student position, expectations of applicants include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to attend an annual 2-day training, preparing Peer Educators to be resources and peer educators on sexual misconduct and related topics.

  • Attend one check-in meeting per semester with the Specialist.

  • Attend weekly Peer Educator meetings.

  • Attend the Office's programming whenever the schedule allows. Depending on the time of year, there may be anywhere from two events per week to two events per month. This includes daytime and evening events, workshops, and meetings.

  • Office hours may be required to meet with students, work on event planning, conduct outreach initiatives, and support the Office in other ways.

  • Meet and support students individually on an as-need basis.

Skill Requirements:

  • Be dedicated to intimate partner violence prevention programming and education.

  • Have general knowledge and understanding of issues of sexual violence and dating, particularly related to current events/trends on college campuses and Title IX.

  • Be interested in and passionate about anti-oppressive social justice work.

  • Experience and comfort with public speaking, especially on challenging topics.

  • Possess organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Be able to collaborate and work as part of a team.

  • Prior experience, work, internship, or volunteer experience with issues of any form of intimate partner violence

  • Helpful experience: planning and running events, artistic ability (graphic design, drawing, etc.), social media campaigns, prior experience-- work, internship, or volunteer-- with issues of any form of interpersonal violence.
