The Department of Workplace Standards, Division of Occupation Safety & Health (OSH) Compliance, seeks an OSH Safety Compliance Supervisor in the OSH Compliance Health Branch. This position will oversee and supervise statewide personnel engaged in OSH safety inspections and investigations and conduct inspections to detect safety hazards in place of employment.
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Oversees the supervision of the inspection and investigation processes of OSH Safety Compliance Officers.
Manages the workload and priorities of inspections.
Schedules work assignments for subordinate OSH Compliance Officers to ensure acceptable enforcement presence and maintain productivity.
Conducts inspections to detect safety hazards in places of employment.
Reviews all inspection case files to ensure the technical validity of violations, accuracy, and adequate documentation.
Submits inspection case files to the program manager and makes recommendations.
Schedules and conducts informal conferences with employers in a timely manner and arranges for employee participation as necessary.
Works with the General Counsel in settling contested cases.
Conducts and participates in training sessions, seminars, and programs relative to occupational safety.
Researches technical publications and literature regarding the latest occupational safety standards and technical developments and keeps current with policies.
Trains new employees on equipment, policies, and procedures.
Communicates with the public, employers, and employees regarding OSH safety rules and regulations. Distributes inquiries to the appropriate staff.
Completes performance appraisals, approves leave requests, and timesheets.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate's degree in occupational safety and health.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of professional experience in occupational safety and health, safety training, or a related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in occupational safety and health, completed occupational safety and health internship, safety, or health training, or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for- year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for- year basis or professional experience in occupational safety and health or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year-basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is generally performed in an office setting when preparing reports or evaluating inspections or investigations. Travel is required to conduct inspections and investigations. When conducting workplace inspections or investigations, employees in this job title are exposed to the same working conditions as those employed at the workplace. May be exposed to potential hazards which may require the following of safety precautions.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
