SAIC is seeking Engineering Interns to join our team of qualified, diverse, and highly motivated individuals. This position will be located at the Mark Center in Alexandria, VA, supporting the Department of Defense (DoD). The qualified candidate will provide engineering and technical support, including extensive research, to assessments and recommendations on future technologies for the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense, Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)).

Our Engineering Interns will join the OUSD(R&E) Strategic Technology Protection and Exploitation (STP&E) team that specializes in providing assessments and policy recommendations on cyber and other future technologies like hypersonic vehicles and directed energy.

Tasking would include:

  • Create assessments on defense technologies critical to the United States maintaining superior military capabilities

  • Conduct detailed research of open source and other materials on topics such as supply chain risk related to research and development and industrial base capabilities and capacity

  • Assimilate data into meaningful trends to identify potential risk to DoD programs

  • Create strategy documents and white papers for, and provide recommendations on, maintaining technology advantages

  • Coordinate engagement with stakeholders from numerous U.S. Departments and Agencies, and Industry Partners

  • Schedule meetings, track tasking, and manage stakeholder relationships

  • Develop and present technical briefings to appropriate stakeholders on research study results, resourcing strategies, and recommendations

  • Design creative solutions and propose alternative approaches when desired resources are not projected to be available


Required Qualifications:

  • Active Secret clearance

  • Pursing a bachelor's degree in engineering or related science, preferably systems, electrical, computer, aerospace, or mechanical engineering

  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals and systems engineering concepts

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

Active Top Secret clearance

  • Experience with DoD acquisition processes

  • Knowledge of various USD(R&E) technology modernization areas to include cyber, space systems, hypersonic vehicles, directed energy, networked command, control, & communications (C3), autonomy, machine learning, artificial intelligence, microelectronics, and quantum computing

  • Knowledge of programming languages and software design processes
