Come and join our StaRN Residency Program! We invite new graduate RN's to apply for this unique opportunity. The next program is anticipated to begin on Monday July 22, 2019, and is comprised of didactic training, high definition simulation and a clinical preceptorship.

Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses

The StaRN program is a 12 week (depending on specialty), PAID Nurse Residency program. It allows new graduate nurses to obtain acute care nursing experience through an intensive internship program. Open positions will vary throughout the year, and positions will be offered based on needs of the hospital, but units that typically hire StaRN residents include:

  • Medical Surgical

  • Medical 3 and 4 (Med Surg floors)

  • Inpatient Rehab

  • Surgical Wing / Ortho / Spine

  • Cardiac - CVU, CVPCU, CVICU, CDU

  • PCU / IMCU

  • Critical Care ICU

Part 1: StaRN Training First 5 Weeks (depending on specialty):

  • Instructor-led classroom training

  • Paid training all nurses will be paid at the new graduate RN hourly rates

  • State-of-the-art simulation including comprehensive debriefs

  • Self-directed / on-line learning

  • BLS/ACLS Certification

  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification

  • CPI Certification

  • Meditech Training and Validation

  • The schedule is typically Monday-Friday, with 40 hour work weeks (8 hour days)

Part 2: StaRN Clinical Preceptorship Next 7 Weeks (depending on specialty):

  • Conducted at the hospital

  • Paid training all nurses will be paid at the new graduate RN hourly rates during preceptorship

  • You will be assigned a preceptor specifically for you; to train you and get you acclimated to your role

  • Regular development meetings between the resident, their preceptor and their Director

  • Customized Coaching/Onboarding report for clinical preceptorship

  • The schedule is typically three (3) 12 hour shifts at the hospital

Part 3: HCA Residency Program Remainder of your 1st year

  • Upon successful completion of the StaRN Program, residents will transition to their full-time roles at the hospital

  • All residents pay rates will increase to the 1 year RN hourly rates (possibly higher if resident has prior clinical work experience, such as CNA, LPN, Paramedic etc)

  • Nurse Residents continue professional development through routine interactions with a mentor (meet at least once a month)

  • Attend a monthly residency seminar

  • Complete an evidence-based capstone project

  • Attend graduation

Who is eligible:

  • New Grad RNs who graduated within last 12 months and have less than 6 months RN experience or may have previous LPN exp, EMT exp

  • RNs with more than 1 year experience in sub-acute care. RN experience is current in home health, hospice, rehab, skilled nursing facility, have worked consistently since graduation but not yet in acute care.

  • RNs who have not worked in an acute care setting in the past 5 years

  • RN with more than 1 year experience in acute care, but experience was more than 5 years ago, left Nursing for several years and now want to come back to acute care. Must take a "Refresher" course through a college to get basics current before we can consider for StaRN.

  • RNs with experience outside the US (eligibility may vary by facility & experience level)

Requirements:

  • Current Florida RN license or Multi-state Compact RN license

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing (ACEN), within past 1 year is preferred

  • Program acceptance requires a minimum two (2) year, full-time commitment to the hospital. If a nurse chooses to leave the facility before the 2 year commitment is fulfilled, they may be required to meet a monetary responsibility.

  • Self-motivated and strong communication skills required

  • Attendance is imperative throughout the StaRN Training program

Identifying meaningful growth opportunities and the continuum of care by instituting a platform for increased effectiveness and collaboration through existing HCA behavioral health services. Evaluate, analyze, and interpret market demographics, including population, age, gender, race, and projected trends for both providers of psychiatric services and patient populations In collaboration with division and/or market CEO's, evaluate, analyze, and interpret current behavioral health referral patterns and trends.
