Please note: This is NOT a remote role, and qualified candidates must live in the greater Tulsa, OK area or be willing to relocate.

Job Summary: Under the guidance and supervision of the Manager, Clinical Research, the Orthopedic/General Trauma Research (Fellow) manages fifteen or more clinical research projects with mentorship from Oklahoma State University orthopedic faculty and the health system's general trauma team members throughout the duration of the fellowship program. This role prepares manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and submits and presents abstracts for annual presentations.

Minimum Education: Expected to graduate from medical school or must have letter stating student is in good standing with medical school.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

Work Experience: Prior work in research desired, but not required with graduates. If still in medical school, must have prior research experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong knowledge and interest in the research field.

Strong organizational skills and must be detail oriented. Ability to manage multiple projects.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Joins in the residency program functions and activities, attends daily AM trauma rounds, educational conferences, Grand Rounds, and the journal club within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Participates in various projects across divisions of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and General Surgery Trauma Team. Maintains prospective study enrollment initiatives and follow-up. Mentors medical students through research projects, research planning, design, data collection and analysis, and preparation and submission of manuscripts, abstracts, IRBs, and grants.

Performs evaluations, assessments, consultations, rounds, and patient care with attending physician review. Triages patients to the appropriate care setting. Develops and prepares ten publications, chapters, or abstracts throughout the duration of the fellowship program. Remains current with developments in clinical research through continuing medical education (CME) programs, staff conferences, medical literature, research, and other educational activities.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.

Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers.

Works with internal/external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
