Position Overview

The DBA position is an integral role within the managed hosting industry. Logicworks' DBA team is responsible for supporting multiple customers simultaneously, running Oracle and other databases, by performing installations, upgrades, and migrations. We are looking for a talented Oracle Database Administrator to help support and coordinate database activities for our Managed AWS, Managed Azure, and Private Cloud customers. An effective candidate will be able to implement policies and procedures for the management, protection, and efficient utilization of systems, data, and databases. Standard operating procedures will include running scripts, installation, migration, monitoring, backup and recovery, tuning of database and underlying OS, helping to resolve complex customer-related problems, and database related work orders in a timely manner. In addition to the daily Oracle database tasks, this DBA will play a role in establishing and executing database migrations to the cloud. The responsibilities will include:

  • Performing day to day Oracle database administration in large, complex environments

  • Responsible for the overall performance, tuning, and backup/recovery of databases and optimization of underlying operating systems and hardware architectures for managed database service clients.

  • Maintaining database in high availability (HA) solutions to meet reliability and high client service level standards

  • Implementing proactive monitoring of performance and overall health of clients' environments

  • Installing, configuring, and upgrading Oracle server software and related products

  • Deploying highly available architectures using Oracle RAC

  • Planning and implementing database migrations in public cloud environments

  • Configuring Oracle databases in AWS & Azure environments

  • Participating in an on-call rotation for after-hours escalations, nights and weekends

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in computer science, IT, engineering, or equivalent experience

  • Five or more years of experience as an Oracle database administrator

  • Extensive Linux administration experience

  • A high degree of self-management in area of tracking, time management, documentation and vendor / service management

  • Experience in planning and executing the migration of databases between different environments, especially public cloud environments

  • Strong familiarity with database HA and DR solutions

  • Experience in installing and administering database instances in design, development, test and production environment

  • Experience with external storage arrays, fiber channel switches and HBA's, and SCSI raid storage devices

  • Information security experience and strong understanding of security practices including data encryption

  • Deep knowledge of ASM, Dataguard, advanced Replication, CRS & Oracle Grid

  • Expertise with RMAN, ADDM/AWR & SQL profile

  • High level of proficiency with Database Performance Tuning techniques

  • Experience in PL/SQL and client/server configuration in a Linux environment; in Oracle 11g and above

  • Experience working with engineering teams in a fast-paced environment

  • Motivated self-starter personality; must be able to work independently of supervision as well as possess strong communication skills in a client-facing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • SQL Server database administration including Availability Groups, backup expertise, database replication, monitoring, and AG/VIP failover management

  • Familiarity with Oracle Advanced Security Options, Streams, and data warehousing

  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming or basic coding

  • Familiar with Rubrik backup solution

  • Knowledge of Azure database services

  • Any Oracle Certifications would be a plus

The Role The Senior Oracle (Exadata) DBA primary responsibility is to ensure availability, stability, scalability and performance of database servers that supports BNY Mellon's Digital Platform and Applications. Key Responsibilities: * Works with firm-wide engineering and architecture, and business/AD architects to drive solution standardization and reuse for Data Management Infrastructure Operations. * Provide secure, highly available, scalable database services that improve overall resiliency, functionality, and enable operational management optimization. * Troubleshoot new software systems at the cutting edge of distributed database technology, and deliver large-scale systems that will have an impact on revenue growth on our business and competitive position. * Provide Oracle Exadata database administration handling database provisioning, patching, upgrade of all associated Exadata components including Clusterware, Storage cells, Infiniband switches and database instances * Strong experience with patching of Exadata components in rolling and non-rolling methods * Monitoring of Exadata appliance and Oracle database instances with Oracle Enterprise Manager * Configuration, failover and failback using Oracle Data guard for business continuity and Disaster Recovery requirements * Key Management for Oracle DB encryption, understanding and experience using Oracle TDE for encryption at rest providing data protection * Strong experience with migrating database servers from standalone instances to Oracle multi-tenancy in Oracle 12c and beyond * Implemented automation of operational tasks using Shell scripts/Perl/Python * Provide incident management, deployment management and business continuity requirements of database servers * Knowledge on ZDLRA and well versed with performing backups on ZDLRA * Should have strong knowledge of Database backup & Recovery practices adheres to organizational security standards. * Implementation of adequate levels of auditing & reviewing database audit logs * Well versed with installation and management of layered products on Oracle engineered systems * Proven track record for vulnerability remediation * Knowledge on products like Gaurdium , Qualys & Orion Principal Infrastructure Operations Analyst->> Designs, implements, integrates, and provides full support for complex software in a multi-tiered, multi-platform environment. Implements, integrates and provides support for middleware software in a multi-tiered, multi-platform environment, dealing with development projects that have a broad impact across the organization. Provides consulting expertise in identifying and solving highly-critical middleware issues and serves as a resource on middleware issues related to policies and standards that impact middleware specialist and application support staffs across the corporation. Communicates with internal and external system users to address concerns and make sure that technical issues are dealt with appropriately.
