Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology/related discipline is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Clearance Requirements:
This position requires a minimum of an active TS/SCI clearance. Must be willing and able to obtain a polygraph within a reasonable amount of time after hire, with acceptable timing determined by manager. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Oracle Database Administrator in the San Antonio, TX area. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nations core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Demonstrate an understanding of PL/SQL constructs (triggers, functions, packages, procedures) and their processing
Create, alter, and drop database users
Monitor and audit web server and database access
Develop and implement a strategy for managing security (roles, privileges, authentication)
Perform daily web and database server backups
Perform daily server health checks and log findings
Allocate and manage physical storage structures (e.g. datafiles, redo logs, control files)
Troubleshoot and resolve web and database server issues
Troubleshoot and resolve user connection problems
Troubleshoot database application issues to include reviewing applicable error logs on both web and database servers
Diagnose and resolve locking conflicts
Performance tuning
Use data dictionary tables and views
Demonstrate and understanding of the capabilities of the underlying operating system as it relates to the Oracle database and and/or any supported optional products
Perform complete system shutdown and startup as required
Track database metrics and provide to management upon request
COMMUNICATION/TEAM BUILDING/ATTITUDE:
It is critical that the person filling this position be able to complete projects independently and with little or no supervision. However, because of the nature of the DBA position, the ability to effectively communicate ideas and concepts is critical. Also, when the times call for it, working as part of a team is essential to the overall success of our contract. Individuals must be self motivated, eager to learn, and have the ability to take the good with the bad as well as affectively deal with heightened stressful situations.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to act with little daily instruction on tasks of diverse scope using a seasoned professional understanding of the database administration discipline
Exhibits proficient knowledge on database technologies, operating systems, best practices, and industry trends including database design, configuration, tuning, and support
Proficient knowledge of SQL and SQL query tuning techniques
Proficient experience developing solutions to a variety of challenging problems of broader scope and complexity
Prior work experience as a Database Administrator or equivalent planning, designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing database systems
Has ability to analyze situations, alternatives, proposals, designs, architectures, risks, data, systems, and constructs
Proficient understanding of solutions development methodologies (e.g. DevOps, Agile, Software Development Lifecycle, etc.)
Solid presentation skills
Clear & concise oral & written communication skills
