Participates in direct patient care to maintain clinical expertise and serve as a role model for the specialty team. Assists the Operating Room Service Coordinator (ORSC) to organizes and plan direct patient care activity to achieve the highest level of quality/cost standards.

Collaborates with OR manager, ORSC, staff, and Staff Educators to provide a training and development plan for staff. Assists the ORSC in coordinating Interdisciplinary Specialty Team meetings. Collaborates with ORSC and Sterile Process for specialty instrument tray management and equipment.

Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others & collaborates with management in problem solving and decision making. Clinical Functions: Collaborates with ORSC to coordinate team's development and implementation of standards of care (e.g. via preference lists for specific procedures), consistent with the Operating Room philosophy, goals, and objectives.

Monitors daily activities and provides OR manager, ORSC, and Staff Educators, with feedback. Leadership Functions: Assist the OR manager and physicians to identify resources needed to implement new programs & procedures.

Assists to resolve recurring problems of assignment with the OR schedule coordinator. Recommends and monitors implementation of cost control measures for their specialty with the OR manager and ORSC. Assists the OR manager in the follow-up on unusual incidence reports.

Educational Functions: Provides feedback on orienteer's performance to OR manager, ORSC, and Staff Educators. Develops, conducts, and participates in formal in-service programs within their area of expertise.

Assists staff with the development and presentation of in-service's. Assists team members in development goals and activities related to their own professional self-development. Participates and provides leadership on OR and/or departmental committees.

Professional/Research Functions: Assumes a leadership role in professional activities / assumes responsibility for own continuing education. Actively participates in departmental committees / attendance at designated meetings.

Maintains membership in professional organizations. Identifies areas for clinical study / promotes or conducts investigations in these areas. AA/EOE.

Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technologists with certification. BLS through American Heart Association. Minimum 2 years clinical experience in perioperative nursing. Preferred: Bachelor's degree.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and the ability to take corrective action for themselves and other team members when there is a break in technique. Demonstrate fine motor skills and eye hand coordination necessary to handle small intricate surgical instruments, supplies and specimens. Demonstrate the ability to provide complete, accurate communication to all members of the surgical team. Prepares and maintains sterile field throughout the surgical procedure. Provides assistance to the surgical team. This includes draping of the surgical site, and efficient and safe handling of all sharps and instruments. Maintains accurate count of all supplies, suture and sponge items on the sterile field. Orients new staff to the ORST role. Physical ability to push, pull, lift, and move 30 pounds. Additional Functions, Stocks room with supplies and equipment . Provide On Call coverage for their department, either specialty or general, as designated by their manager. Following orientation, OR technician's are expected to take call according to the On Call policy. EOE/AA Required: * High School Diploma required. * Knowledge of medical terminology. * Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technologists. * Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation recognition (healthcare provider level). * An essential function of this job is the ability to lift/carry weight of up to 35 pounds. An essential function of this job is the ability to push/pull with 50 pounds of force.
