Job Summary

Under general supervision, the OR Scheduling Clerk is responsible for accurately scheduling surgical procedures and procedures requiring Anesthesia support for the Parnassus Campus (the M/L OR and ASC). Advanced scheduling is performed up to three months in advance.

Responsible for entering retrospective data that will generate monthly statistical reports:

  • Accurately schedules all surgical and anesthesia procedures within existing scheduling grid and assigns operating room time based on current block time allocations and availability

  • Maintains ongoing communication with appropriate personnel regarding changes to schedule

  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, including telephone and house standards

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent with working knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures

  • Previous experience with computerized scheduling and data entry, preferably in a hospital environment

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and multi-task in high pressure environment with constantly shifting priorities; detail oriented

  • Well developed public-relations and communication skills, and ability to handle discretionary release of confidential information

  • Ability to read and comprehend handwritten surgical case information

  • Excellent grammar and spelling skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the staff and other Medical Center personnel

  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

  • Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.

  • Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.

  • Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations is required.

Department Description The Dermatologic Surgery and Laser Center specializes in diagnosing and treating a full spectrum of skin diseases and cancers. Its experts are leaders in performing a highly specialized surgery, called Mohs micrographic surgery, to treat certain types of skin cancer. The dermatology practices at UCSF Medical Center are regional centers offering a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services for patients of all ages with cutaneous problems. We provide the most comprehensive skin cancer treatment program in Northern California, are the region's only vascular anomalies center and provide a complete psoriasis treatment program. Job Summary Under supervision, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of care to patients in an ambulatory multi-specialty group practice. Work includes a variety of personal care and nursing procedures including assuring positive care outcomes. S/he will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the primary and specialty care services provided to patients within the practice. S/he is required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.
