Right now we're looking for an Optometric Technician to join our growing team. The Optometric Technician assists the Optometrist by conducting pre-screenings and testing prior to the doctor examination.

What would you do? The Specifics

  • Ensures high quality patient care.

  • Maintains a professional atmosphere and appearance of doctor's office and pretest room.

  • Understands ocular terminology and diseases and knows the ocular abbreviations.

  • Explains to the patient the types of preliminary examinations.

  • Completes necessary paperwork and performs testing on patients prior to doctor examination.

  • Promotes visual field testing and retinal screenings to eligible patients.

  • Performs exam pre-screening.

  • Reviews prescriptions and/or patient information carefully and identifies special needs. Consults with the optician, Doctor or Retail Management when necessary.

  • Fills out referral forms and follow-up paperwork as required.

  • Maintains accurate and organized patient records.

  • Ensures equipment, both Doctor's and pre-test, is properly maintained.

  • Orders and maintains supplies and pharmaceuticals as directed.

  • Follows all store and corporate policies and procedures.

  • Participates in regularly scheduled mandatory communications meetings in order to keep informed of changes in corporate policies and initiatives.

Position Requirements:

  • Previous retail/optical experience preferred, but not required.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Ability to learn optical knowledge.

  • Able to give instruction in a clear and concise manner to customers.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Detailed oriented.

  • Multitasking and time-management skills.

  • Professional attitude and appearance.

First line of action is to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at risk behaviors. Summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room. Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. * Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate care to this patient population based on the patients individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN. * Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving to monitoring area and upon completion of shift assignment. Arranges meal break times and informs staff prior to leaving monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation. * Provides patient with explanations as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinions. Demonstrates behaviors in line with iCARE values. * Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to charge nurse or team leader. * Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs. To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements: Ø High school graduate of G.E.D.; general knowledge of the hospital setting. Ø Previous experience in a hospital environment preferred; previous clinical experience preferred; previous direct patient care experience preferred. Ø Certification preferred (Nurse Assistant/Medical Assistant). Ø Capable of continuous monitoring of up to 15 patients on one screen at one time and remaining alert at all times while on duty.
