The Optimization Contractor in OPTIS is responsible for development, testing, integration and support of new optimizers for client. The contractor must subscribe to a timely and disciplined approach to model development, be attentive to detail, and focused on delivery of highly reliable and sustainable applications. Software used for optimization and peripheral support varies by application and includes Excel, AIMMS and Tableau.
Understand configuration and operations of client pipelines and associated plants and products. Track model behavior and define metrics to track model mismatch, take remedial steps and study impact of changes over time. Influence direction of future optimizers being built keeping in mind accuracy, end user experience, sustainability and continuous improvement. Understand and maintain expert systems (forecast modules, data preparation) built around optimizers to filter inputs and outputs.
Development of new optimizers in the Operations Technology group supporting operational and business needs. Keep up to date on upcoming model changes needed to reflect operational changes. Analyze optimization needs of operations and business and translate to systems development needs. Design effective and efficient technical solutions based on business-driven goals in a timely manner. Analyze business and user needs, update and document design, and revise existing system logic as necessary
Meet with business users and end users to review, elaborate, and document system requirements (including user interface, functional, and non-functional requirements).
Create architectural and code-level documentation, sharing this and other technical knowledge with the team. Work either independently and/or on a small team of technology professionals to complete technology projects. Interact with end user representatives; gather business requirements; translate into design specification; build and integrate system components
Minimum B.S. with 7+ years experience, or M.S. with 5+ years experience, or PhD with 3+ years experience preferred (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Operations Research)
Experience in programming in AIMMS/GAMS or equivalent optimization packages is required, Python or R knowledge is a plus.
Display knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Windows server, Linux etc.).
Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Broad knowledge of programming, data analysis, optimization concepts, and pipeline hydraulics
Working knowledge of industrial gas sector
Excellent communication skills
