The Optics Manufacturing Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of massive optics fabrication equipment for production of optical components.

Essential Functions and


Monitors and operates massive grinding and polishing machines for the fabrication of large glass optics.

Sets up tooling and configures grinding machines for operation and assists in the maintenance and modification of grinding and polishing machinery. Monitors, operates and programs glass sagging ovens.

Works with large pieces of glass, wood and/or plastics including: cutting, drilling, sanding, cleaning and packaging. In house manufacture includes using a variety of hand and power tools to fabricate components from raw materials including glass, wood, metal, various plastics and fiberglass.

Dimensions finished glass products to tight tolerances using hand held belt sanders.

Uses solvents, paints, epoxies, acids and fiberglass resins. Applies finishing products to materials by spray or by hand. Regularly uses solvents to clean parts.

Assists in the preparation, packaging and shipping of finished glass products. Preparation and packaging may include the fabrication of wooden shipping crates using a variety of hand and power tools.

Assists in testing and quality assurance of optical components, assemblies and equipment.

Assists the Production Manager or the Engineering Department in prototype development and testing of new products.

Cleans the production facility in readiness for manufacturing activities and testing; organizes tools, work areas, equipment, materials and supplies to present an efficient and orderly facility.

Performs routine facility maintenance

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivilent plus 4 years' experience in a comparable manufacturing position or in a directly related trade skill (i.e., machinist, welder, electrician, equipment mechanic, technician, etc.). Or minimum 2 years experience as an Optics Manufacturing Technician Level I.

In this role, you will be working in the manufacturing environment as a resource to resolve production issues, repair PCBA's and improve quality at the Contract Manufacturers. Duties and Responsibilities: * Repair of production boards * Manage MRB/Scrap inventory * Identify test or training gaps that create issues * Develop solutions with production issues at CM * Apply working knowledge of PCB and analog digital circuits to test environments * Review and read schematics and PCB layouts * Trouble shoot PCB design issues and board bring up * Identify preventable actions and share knowledge with others to reduce reoccurring issues * Responsible for soldering components to fine pitch * Assist manufacturing technicians as needed to resolve technical issues as they arise Job Qualifications * Experienced Technician with excellent soldering skills. * Ability to solder to IPC-A610-E specifications. * Ability to remove and re-solder SMT and Thru Hole parts and components. * Must be comfortable with both SMT and Thru-Hole technology * Highly motivated self-starter who works well independently and in group setting. * Well organized and ability to multi-task. * Good verbal and written communications skills. * Strong computer skills. * Experienced using electronic test equipment (traffic generators), hand tools, and power tools. * Specific communications protocol knowledge required - Understanding of Ethernet, Fiber Channel, Sonet. * Ability to understand technical drawings, data sheets, and written/verbal work instructions. * 5+ years working in a test lab or hardware manufacturer * 3+ years working in a testing, engineering or engineering support role * Working knowledge of scripting with python, perl, expect would be a plus. Preferred experience in related field: PCB repair, PCB rework, and Networking.
