We are currently seeking an innovative Optical Systems Integration Engineer in Hardware Product Development team with a passion for building up next generation near to eye display, viewing optics and imaging systems. Primary responsibility is working with development engineers and vendors to implement the proper assembly and evaluation of these next generation optical systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate and characterize optical elements and assembled systems (both analytically and experimentally).

Develop and execute new methods of characterization based on next-generation product requirements.

Validate component and system maturity through development stages to MP.

Identify issues and work with the team to improve design and implementation.

Engage cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, technical operations, and automation teams to ensure optical module requirements are being met.

Support automation teams on production test station implementation.

Support modeling and prototyping for next-generation optics and displays.

Willingness and ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 25% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS, MS or Ph.D. in Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related degree
    2+ years of experience, working on product development of optics, photonic and/or opto-mechanical systems (internship or thesis work may be substituted for industry experience)

Knowledge of optics including, but not limited to, imaging, illumination, geometric optics, and statistics

Experience in one or more optical design tools, such as Zemax, LightTools, FRED, or ASAP

Interpersonal experience - cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

Proven track record of increasing responsibilities and decision-making experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven track record developing technologies that have resulted in successful transition into high-volume consumer products

DFx experience related to optical components or systems

Oculus is looking for an experienced and self-motivated Optical Process Engineer to join the Hardware Product Development team. The successful candidate will lead the development of manufacturing processes for the mass production of complex optical systems within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. RESPONSIBILITIES * Development support during product design phase to provide input dealing with manufacturability needs (DFM/DFA) for optics and related components. Define, develop and deploy new manufacturing technology (e.g., optical assembly, active alignment, adhesives, and lamination). Analyze manufacturability of the prototype designs and refine as necessary, operating as a member of product development team. Develop and evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, materials, tooling, fabrication, and assembly. Confer with equipment vendors and solicit feedback from operators. Investigate and assist in resolving manufacturing concerns relating to production, quality and product design. Assist with design changes. Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering or related field with 5+ years industry experience or equivalent experience Hands-on or academic experience in the focus areas listed below: * Injection mold tool design * Injection molding processes (of optical materials) * Injection mold part qualification process * Development of new processes for optical applications * Camera module integration * Display lamination process Knowledge of plastic materials, especially optical grades Experience communicating technical concepts Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Proven track record of developing technologies and successful transition into high-volume consumer products.
