Optical Mechanical Engineer

The qualified candidate will be part of the Everett, WA high-performance engineering team in the research and development of mechanical components used in the manufacture of Fluke products. This includes component and overall system designs that meet Design for Manufacturability (DFM), compliance to industry standards and Fluke defined product robustness requirements. The role requires a person who is able to interact with a diverse and very skilled team of engineers, collaborate on work tasks across sites and functions, and manage high ambiguity.
Serve as technical leader and expert for major projects for both new and existing products.
Be able to brainstorm new mechanical systems and architectures and converge on feasible designs comprising of mechatronics, optics, firmware and hardware.
Build, test, and refine prototypes and/or high precision test fixtures.
Provide Opto-Mechanical guidance to greater team of researchers and engineers.
Push state of the art technologies and approaches to solving complex mechanical problems
Design product and manufacturing systems using parametric 3D solid modeling software such as ProE, SolidWorks
Collaborate intensely with the Industrial Designers, Hardware, Firmware and Manufacturing Engineers to develop products that meet internal and external customer expectations.
Responsible for developing or executing project plans and processes, schedules and for documentation of work and results.
Act as a team leader and mentor to other engineers. Develop core technology leading to patents or trade secrets
Work closely with the Manufacturing and R&D team to resolve any manufacturing issues.
Bachelor's/Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 10-15 years experience developing mechanical systems and assemblies in a manufacturing environment.
Expert in testing and analysis capability with FEA, Simulation, Virtual Prototyping, CODE V, Monte Carlo, and Zemax/Ray Tracing skills
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge and practical application for precision optics, opto-mechanics, opto-electronics or other components.
Able to determine appropriate manufacturing methods for parts (die cast, thixo mold, machining) based on needs (annual volume, tolerances, Leadtime).
Track industry trends and scope future manufacturing methods.
Experience with optical production methods including SPDT, filter coatings, and multi-lens assembly
MATLAB toolbox development experience a plus.
