The Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems (EOIS) business unit has locations in Dallas, TX; Melbourne, FL, and Cypress, CA. EOIS is a world leader in infrared sensor technology producing both cooled and uncooled sensors. These sensors are sold externally to other OEMs as well as integrated into higher level systems produced at Leonardo DRS.
At Leonardo DRS you will be part of a highly capable team that leads the industry in innovation and develops products and systems that are mission critical to the warfighter. You will be responsible for leading a cross functional team of talented engineers to manage the full life cycle, from roadmaps to concepts and release to production, of a designated product area.
Optical Fabrication Technician
Support engineering with moderately complex engineering duties and/or hands-on tasks. Involved with the overall development of optical systems. Coordinate with hardware and software design teams in selecting and qualifying optical components. Develop performance models and test procedures.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in precision machining or optical alignment.
A minimum of a high school diploma with two years of college preferred.
Hands-on ability to adjust and align precision optical and mechanical systems.
Analytical problem solving with trigonometry-level math skills.
Proficient with computer programs like MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel to communicate, calculate, and document.
Ability to understand drawings, specifications, procedures, and geometric tolerances.
Self-starter who is able to work independently for several days.
Ability to plan and organize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work well with and support others at all levels within the organization.
Able to work flexible hours to support engineering and production schedules.
Knowledge of machine shop and diamond turning capabilities and processes preferred.
Optical component handling, cleaning, and bonding experience preferred.
Build, align, and calibrate optical test systems using hand tools, light meters, multimeters, alignment telescopes, autocollimators, theodolites, and lasers.
Support Optical Engineers with testing and troubleshooting. Analyze test results and adjust equipment to bring it within specifications. Set up and conduct precision optical and mechanical measurements.
Help with tool design and drawing release.
Order, receive, setup, and validate optical and mechanical equipment and keep the lab organized.
Coordinate with other people and departments to purchase, install, align, troubleshoot, calibrate, and document optical systems.
Work in lab, production, and some field environments to maintain and calibrate optical systems in DRS and customer facilities with some limited travel.
