Oculus is looking for an experienced and highly self-motivated Optical Design Engineer to design, simulate and implement optical systems used in virtual reality (VR) headsets.
Work closely with hardware industry partners to identify, define, develop, test, and deploy state-of-the-art optical technologies for VR products.
Work closely with internal display, perceptual psychology, mechanical and computer vision teams to develop optical system specifications, perform comprehensive performance analysis and debug system-level issues.
Invent new viewing optics architectures, develop requirements and implement these into future VR products.
Up to 15% domestic and international travel required.
Knowledge in one of the skills listed below:
Imaging camera lens design
Plastic and glass optical material
Stray light molding and analysis
Human vision system
Complex optical system simulation and molding
Optical lens fabrication
Experience in at least one optical design software package (e. g. Zemax, CodeV, LightTools, FRED).
Experience in both sequential and non-sequential optical design software.
Interpersonal experience to work with cross-functional teams.
Experience in opto-mechanical design and tolerance analysis.
Experience in MATLAB or Python programming.
Knowledge of camera system integration and metrology methodology for camera lens testing and camera module evaluation.
