Oculus is looking for an experienced and highly self-motivated Optical Design Engineer to design, simulate and implement optical systems used in virtual reality (VR) headsets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the design and implementation of optical components and systems, including viewing optics and camera lens for Oculus VR products, to product excellence (e.g. optical performance, compactness, reliability, and cost etc.).

Work closely with hardware industry partners to identify, define, develop, test, and deploy state-of-the-art optical technologies for VR products.

Work closely with internal display, perceptual psychology, mechanical and computer vision teams to develop optical system specifications, perform comprehensive performance analysis and debug system-level issues.

Invent new viewing optics architectures, develop requirements and implement these into future VR products.

Up to 15% domestic and international travel required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline with 5+ years of experience or advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline with 2+ years of experience.

Knowledge in one of the skills listed below:

  • Ophthalmic optics design

Imaging camera lens design

Plastic and glass optical material

Stray light molding and analysis

Human vision system

Complex optical system simulation and molding

Optical lens fabrication

Experience in at least one optical design software package (e. g. Zemax, CodeV, LightTools, FRED).

Experience in both sequential and non-sequential optical design software.

Interpersonal experience to work with cross-functional teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline.

Experience in opto-mechanical design and tolerance analysis.

Experience in MATLAB or Python programming.

Knowledge of camera system integration and metrology methodology for camera lens testing and camera module evaluation.

Oculus is looking for a highly motivated Optical Metrology Development Engineer that will lead the development, qualification and implementation of optical metrology technologies for characterizing optical components and modules in Oculus virtual reality (VR) products. RESPONSIBILITIES * Define, design and develop optical metrology solutions including hardware engineering, test software implementation, and instrument qualification. Develop instrumentation to characterize optical components (illumination and imaging optics) and complex optical modules. Perform opto-mechanical simulation at system level, collect and perform statistical analysis on metrology data to correlate to performance metrics. Explore novel metrology technologies and work with suppliers on prototype development. Take complete ownership of transferring metrology technologies from R&D to mass production. Up to 20% domestic and international travel required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * BS degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline with 5+ years of experience or advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline with 2+ years of experience. Knowledge of illumination, imaging optics, image quality metrics, optical metrology and characterization. Experience in opto-mechanical design and simulation using SolidWorks/NX, Zemax/LightTools/FRED. Experience in test automation (instrument control, data collection and analysis) using LabView or MATLAB. Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Measurement System Analysis. Experience in statistical data analysis using Minitab or JMP. Hands-on experience in metrology development from concept to high volume manufacturing. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience in image processing and algorithm development.
