Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is an OPS Registered Nurse position with the Florida Department of Health in Leon County. This is work: performing under the direct, indirect, and/or general supervision of the Director of Nursing.

This position is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork in a clinical environment. This position is in a public health clinic setting requiring independent judgment and actions. The program conducts medical assessments for individuals resettling to the Leon County area from other counties. This position reports directly to the Community Health Nursing Supervisor.

Processes client registration information and prepares and maintains patient charts and/or records according to Florida Department of Health-Leon and Clinical Department policies.

Communicates the following information to patients: Medical history updates, explanations of clinical procedures and referrals to other medical facilities.

Addresses and relays patient concerns to the medical provider. Responsible for dating and charting pertinent clinical information written and verbally given to or received from a patient.

Upholds quality infection control standards through the sterilization or disinfecting of all exam room and laboratory equipment, instruments, and supplies. Responsible for ensuring that all the patient care is provided in an aseptic environment.

Handles all bio-hazardous waste and sharp objects according to Federal and state OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines. Periodically, updates infection control knowledge through continuing education seminars and clinical journals.

Maintains accurate charts and records by documenting treatment rendered, referrals, and/or prescriptions given to a patient, in person and/or phone conversations with patient and billing or receipt copies made.

Attends training and seminars as they become available to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to duties and responsibilities.

Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purposes of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy and electronic forms.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

Ability to interview clients and obtain medical history.

Ability to enter, transcribe, records, stores, or maintains information.

Knowledge of basic medical terminology/techniques.

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.

Qualification:

Current Florida RN License required.
