VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician for our growing Ophthalmology Team. We are a fast paced, AAHA-accredited, 24 hour emergency and specialty hospital located in Norwalk, CT.

Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician Essential Functions

  • Perform and/or assists with diagnostic testing (Schirmer Tear Testing, Tonometry, Ocular Ultrasounds, Electroretinogram testing, etc.)

  • Must be experienced with general anesthesia and mechanical ventilation. Cares for and monitors the condition of animals before, during, and after surgery.

  • Familiar with neuromuscular blockading agents (i.e. atracurium, rocuronium).

  • Comfortable with CRI's and anesthetic blood pressure management.

  • General veterinary technician duties and patient restraint.

  • Organizes, cleans, stocks, and prepares treatment rooms for examination of animals, and holds or restrains animals during examination, treatment.

  • Administers injections, anesthesia, serums, and treatments to animals, including tasks such as dressing wounds, and monitoring vital signs of animals under the direction of a veterinarian.

  • Performs X-rays, CT and other laboratory tests, assists in surgery, and process tissue samples to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.

  • Performs emergency first aid, such as emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures.

  • May triage phone calls from referring veterinarians/clients as well as schedule appointments for diagnostic procedures under the direction of a veterinarian. Advise and educate owners. Ability to collect patient history.

  • Training provided on neuromuscular blocks, ophthalmic instrumentation, and diagnostic testing.

Potential Schedule: Monday Thru Thursday 8am

  • 5 pm

Compensation: $28 - $ 34 / hour based on skill set, experience and licensure status.
