Ophthalmology Technician

Description

Ophthalmology Technicians assist the Optometrist in performing routine examinations and minor surgical procedures. Applicants are expected to demonstrate problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize issues in a timely matter. They must be able to follow instructions/standardized work practices and communicate clearly, as well as establishing effective relationships with staff, patients, and their families. Viable candidates must have a strong understanding of equipment safety and maintenance, and be able to illustrate professional judgment at all times.

Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Answering phones, checking messages, making appointments, and taking payments

  • Preparing examination and treatment rooms

  • Cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments

  • Assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures

  • Handling drug refills/e-prescribes

  • Insurance verifications

  • Authorization and referrals

Experience

Medical office experience preferred

EMR experience is ideal
